My small but comforting introductory aviary just got a little more beautiful.

Today we welcomed 4 stunning California Quail to Holy Quail on the Gold Coast.

With their elegant topknots, intricate feather patterns and calm nature, they are easily one of the most recognisable quail species in the world.

Native to the west coast of North America, California Quail are famous for their striking appearance and their social, family oriented behaviour. Watching them explore their new home has already been a highlight.

I’m so excited to share their journey as they settle in and become part of the Holy Quail family.

One of the things I love most about Northern Bobwhite Quail is their call.

Their clear, whistling “bob-WHITE!” call is what gave them their name and it’s easy to see why. It’s a beautiful sound that instantly brings a little piece of the countryside to your backyard.

Our newest arrivals have already started finding their voices and we couldn’t be happier.

Some beautiful new friends have just arrived at Holy Quail on the Gold Coast.

We’re excited to welcome four stunning Northern Bobwhite Quail to our growing flock. These charming little birds are known for their gentle nature, distinctive calls and striking markings.

Another dozen fertile King Quail eggs going to their new home this afternoon. I individually wrap every egg so that I have a chance to check for cracks and say goodbye to these little ones. It’s so exciting to know their little adventure is just beginning. 🐣

Meet Sonic. 💕 She is one of my favourite tuxedo POL hens. She was having her weekly check up when I thought I really need to take some more photos of my girls and do a spotlight on each of them but, let’s face it, it’s not easy holding king quail and taking photos at the same time! They are explosive and very good at jumping out of your hands. Isn’t she just exquisite. She has the full tuxedo marking down her back and she was named sonic as she was so fast darting around the brooder.

Every king quail egg feels like its own tiny artwork. look at the beauty in this little delicate bean…

The colours, speckles and patterns are never exactly the same. Some are pale and delicate, others heavily freckled like this little beauty.

Hard to believe something this tiny eventually hatches into a fluffy little quail tearing around the aviary at full speed.

Nature really is wild.

The beauty of a king quail egg…

Not much bigger than a jellybean… yet inside this tiny shell is a fully formed little quail waiting to hatch.

Every single egg from Holy Quail is carefully selected, individually wrapped by hand and packed with the hope of becoming a tiny new life somewhere across Australia.

The markings on king quail eggs are all completely unique too. No two are ever exactly the same.

Tiny egg. Tiny heartbeat. Tiny future floof.
