I’d been told by a few people that this hike was well worth it, so when our original Adventure Girls 4x4 day fell through (with just two of us attending), we decided to swap the steering wheel for hiking boots.
And honestly? Best decision.

The track itself isn’t too technical, but it does keep you honest with a mix of steady ups and downs, long stretches of soft sand that really test your legs, and not a lot of shade in some parts.
By the time we finally reached the bay, we’d covered just over 5 km, and the view felt like such a reward. With the tide way out, the beach was scattered with shells I’d never spotted before, like little treasures waiting to be found.

This spot has a bit of history too as it’s named after Edmund Kennedy, the explorer who led one of the most famous (and tragic) expeditions through Far North Queensland back in 1848. His journey was brutal, and most of his party never made it, but his name has lived on in places like this. It feels fitting in a way, a tough trek that ends in a beautiful, wild landscape, much like the challenges he faced.

All up, swapping four wheels for this hike was absolutely worth it. A little challenging, a lot rewarding, and one I’d definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
Be sure to carry plenty of water and some snacks!

Dunk & Bedarra Island! What a day out this turned into!

At first, it almost didn’t happen. The boat hire company we originally booked with cancelled on us the night before, and we were pretty deflated about our chances of actually getting on the water. But thankfully, Mission Beach Boat Hire came to the rescue. After a quick briefing and some super detailed maps of the surrounding islands, we were off and straight across to Bedarra Island.

To our surprise, we had the entire island to ourselves. Wandering around felt surreal with the little toilet block gave off serious Gilligan’s Island vibes, and we even found a giant swing tucked away. The water was crystal-clear, the kind you can’t help but stop and just stare at for a while.

From there, we made our way over to Dunk Island. We spent time exploring the quieter south-east side before finally heading to the main area with the café. Note to self (and anyone planning a trip): the café is only open Wednesday through Sunday, so plan ahead if you’re hoping for a coffee or a bite to eat. That said, the BBQ facilities and public toilets were impressively clean, a rare find when island hopping!

All up, it was such a memorable little island adventure. Huge thanks to Mission Beach Boat Hire for saving the day and giving us the chance to explore a couple of North Queensland’s gems.

How many days of your life have you actually worked?

I just turned 27. I’ve been working since I was 16. That’s over a decade of clocking in, doing the long shifts, weekends, late nights, and everything in between.

If we break it down… by the time the average person hits 30, they’ve worked around 2,600+ days of their life (that’s 10+ years straight if you added them all up).
And yet, at 30, most people still feel like they should have their life together; house, savings, career path. When really, most are just treading water, staring down another 30+ years before retirement.

Here’s the kicker: I’ve always been a hard worker. I don’t shy away from putting in the effort. But at some point, I had to stop and ask myself…

👉 Do I really want to spend the majority of my life working my arse off just to “hopefully” enjoy retirement one day?

The answer was a flat no.

That’s why I’ve started building a retirement plan on my terms. A digital business that grows with me, instead of draining me. One that gives me the choice to work because I want to, not because I have to.

I’m not even close to retirement yet. But I know I’ll get there faster than if I just keep grinding day in, day out, waiting for life to begin at 65.

We only spent a couple of hours exploring this Mossman Gorge, and honestly, we wish we had planned better. There’s so much to see and do here, it really deserves a full day.

The gorge itself is a stunning stretch of rainforest with crystal-clear waters running over smooth rocks and small waterfalls. The walkways and trails let you immerse yourself in the lush greenery and listen to the sounds of nature all around. Swimming spots are inviting and refreshing, perfect for cooling off after a hike.

To get there, you catch a shuttle bus from the main entrance since you have to pass through a local community that limits individual vehicle access.

Our biggest tip? Get here first thing when it opens. That way, you can avoid the crowds, enjoy the water, and really take your time without rushing.

This spot is more than just a quick stop, it’s the kind of place you want to fully experience.

Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.
That was our life. Every damn day.

I was vet nursing. Jessie was fitting accessories at TJM.
We were living together… but barely living. Just paying bills, saving every cent, dreaming of one day hitting the road and exploring Australia.

It was supposed to be temporary. But two years went by, and nothing really changed.
We busted our butts all week just to spend one rushed night camping, then it was straight back to routine.

Back to work.
Back to feeling like housemates instead of a couple.

Our time never felt like our own. Leave requests denied. Events missed. Always saying no to the fun stuff so we could say yes to “the good life”… later.

Until one day, we’d had enough.
We looked at each other, looked at our savings, and just said—this is it.

We leave now, or we’ll keep putting it off forever.

The Hilux was built. The plan was there.
All that was left was to tie off the last few things… and then we were gone.

Off to do the big lap.
Our dream.
And honestly its been the best decision ever.

🎉 Happiest of birthdays to my partner in crime, Tamara 🎉

You had the dream: the bold idea to travel around Australia… and even though I was a little unsure at first, I’m so glad we said yes. Every adventure, every laugh, every challenge has been better because it’s been with you.

Here’s to another year of growth, exploration, and making amazing memories together.

Love you to the moon and back ❤️

✨ TESTIMONIAL TUESDAY ✨
Let's hear from Lucy And Nath!!

"Where to even begin!

We started our journey over 3 years ago in Jan 2022, when we were both working full time in mining. Our main goal and reason for starting this business was to get out of the industry and start living a life on our terms, and to not have to work fifo when we bring our children into this world ❤

Since starting I have grown so much personally, I have gained so much confidence within myself, grown out of my shell, and am a completely different person.
I have met some of the most incredible people and have created so many life long friendships.
We have been able to leave the mining industry after 1.5 years of building solid foundations within our business.

We cracked a 30k month in April which was a huge achievement for us and absolutely wild that anyone can achieve this🔥

This business has honestly changed my life and I’m so glad I said yes and took a chance on myself.
Excited to see where the next 5 years takes us.💪💪"

We first heard about the Old Tin Dredge from a mate who suggested we should go check it out and honestly, we’d never seen anything like it before!

After wrapping up the Southern Waterfall Circuit with our friends, we were hanging out at Innot Hot Springs when someone threw out the idea to head over and explore this massive relic. Sounded good to us, so off we went.

Now, there are two ways you can reach the dredge. One is by taking a rough bush track (apparently doable, but overgrown), and the other is by following a much shorter, clearer path straight off the main road. Naturally, we decided to take the road less travelled. Big mistake. We easily chewed up an hour or two bush-bashing through overgrown tracks, before eventually admitting defeat and heading back out to the highway. Once we did, we found the easy track almost instantly and reached the dredge in no time at all.

The catch?
By then it was pitch black.
So there we were, underprepared, relying on our phone and watch torches, creeping around this massive, abandoned machine we’d never seen before. The whole thing had a proper eerie vibe... equal parts spooky and exciting.

Despite the timing, exploring the Old Tin Dredge up close was worth it. This thing is huge, rusting away in the middle of nowhere, and you really get a sense of the history just standing next to it.
Plus, we got a bit of extra “wildlife spotting” in as we came across a few spiders and even a nocturnal snake that we’d casually strolled right past before realising it was there.

Definitely one of those random detours we’ll remember for a while.

We didn’t start this journey because we hated our jobs.
We started it because we loved our lives and wanted to spend more time living them.

Burning through half our savings on the road was a hard lesson.
It showed us that working full-time and chasing weekend breaks just isn’t sustainable.

So we built a digital business that fits around the life we want.
Not instead of our jobs but alongside them.

If you want to keep doing what you love, but stop letting work swallow your days…

After checking out the Cardwell Spa Pool, we decided to keep the adventure going with a little day trip out to Attie Creek Falls and Dead Horse Creek Falls. Both are tucked away in the hills not far from Cardwell, and they made for such a good follow-up to the pools.

First stop was Attie Creek Falls. The walk in is a bit steep, but honestly worth every step. You’ve got two choices for swimming here, either at the bottom of the falls (we didn’t make it down to that spot this time), or by taking the path up the left-hand side of the hill to a natural pool right at the base of the cascade. Even just standing at the lookout across the gully was incredible. There’s this feeling of being at the bottom of a waterfall, but also perched high on a mountain at the same time. We found ourselves just standing there, in a bit of awe and wonder, soaking it all in.

Next up was Dead Horse Creek. Compared to Attie, this one’s super easy to get to, just a short 20m walk from the car park and you’re there. The water runs clear and you can swim here too, but on the day we visited it was pretty chilly and the rocks were slippery, so we opted to just take in the view. Still, it was one of those spots that makes you stop for a while, enjoy the sound of the water, and appreciate how close it is to town.

All up, it was the perfect little circuit. With Cardwell Spa Pools, Attie Creek Falls, and Dead Horse Creek all in one day. Each spot has its own vibe, and it felt good to be exploring places that are so close together but all offer something different. Definitely worth the trip if you’re in the area.

We decided to check out Cardwell Spa Pools with Dad, not really knowing what we were in for. Tucked away just a short drive from town, this little spot honestly feels like it appears out of nowhere.

The famous blue of the pools comes from the minerals in the groundwater mixing with the sandy bottom. When the light hits it, it creates that vivid turquoise colour that changes depending on the season, rainfall, and water flow. It’s one of those natural phenomena that makes you stop and think, “Is this actually real?”

When we went, the water wasn’t flowing, and there was a huge sign saying swimming wasn’t recommended due to it being stagnant. So, no dip for us this time. But even without jumping in, it was still pretty amazing to stand there, watch the way the colours shifted, and take it all in.

Definitely one of those hidden gems you wouldn’t expect to find so close to town. It's well worth stopping in, even if it’s just for a look.
