Monday, the day that we all dread….
only for me, this one’s little different- Friday is my last day at my bank job 💰

By the end of this week I will solely be an online business owner- and it will no longer be a side hustle

Even though the decision to cease work was made for me, I am choosing to embrace this as an opportunity to focus purely on our family and our business 💻

We always knew that when we started this business it would be a slow burn, as we were (and still are) super busy with our jobs, family life, kids therapies, and managing both NDIS funds as well as a side hustle resume writing business- but we knew that we would make it work 👍

So while I am really sad about finishing up in a role that I really love, working for people who have bent over backwards for me and my family; and nervous about what lays ahead- I am so excited for this new challenge for our family and I just know that this is the catalyst for great change 💙💙

✨️The moment I knew I needed a change kinda slapped me in the face 🤦‍♀️

We had just purely been in survival mode for the previous two years throughout our sons diagnosis process; with constant time off work for early pickups, meltdowns, elopements, and so so many appointments along with the constant juggle and stress of working 45 mins away from all of this- we knew we couldn’t keep this up forever 😢

We finally got approval to the NDIS, and that’s when it hit me, this approval would mean that we would now have funding to start all the therapies that he needed- OT, speech, psych etc etc. YAY!!!🎉

But…. how the hell was I going to fit that in around a full time job?! I’d already dropped back to part time temporarily to accommodate the appointments that we had, and it was only going to increase 📆

That’s when I knew something had to drastically change 💥

We knew we couldn’t survive solely on Phill’s wage, but it was also so important that one of us be there to support our son 💙

The only way that I could see was to find something that gave me the flexibility to work when I could.

We looked at surveys, I started a resume writing business, looked at virtual assistant roles, started a course on how to set up an etsy store selling digital invitations, applied for jobs in our local area helping out in the office of a family run business, started a tafe course to become a teacher’s aide….we felt like we had tried it all 😫

Then Phill came across a family online, just like us, who were earning an income around their jobs and lives and it was allowing them to spend so much time with their kids, cut back on their hours at work and travel wayyy more 🔥
Yes, their situation was a bit different to ours, but we figured, we essentially wanted the same things…..time 🕗

We watched some videos over a weekend that explained the gist of it, and we were hooked 🎣

💥When we started this business we were excited, motivated and ready to roll- but we were nervous, scared and unsure

We had never done anything like this before

I find that I have a short attention span when it comes to new challenges, businesses, courses etc etc 🤦‍♀️

When the going gets tough, I say ‘f this’ and give up 🤷‍♀️

But one thing that has been a constant in our lives, both directly and through our community chats and meetings was the support of our mentors and team💗

There is no way that I would still be here right now without all of them 🙅‍♂️

When I think back throughout our experience since starting, at no point have I felt alone

So if there’s one thing that has been my takeaway from this whole experience, it’s that you are never alone

💙 Hayden asked me tonight, if I could go back to school, what would I want to be when I grew up? 💙

Without hesitation, I said I would be an archaeologist that owns a country pub (strange combination I know) 🤷‍♀️

He then proceeded to tell me about how he wanted to be a policeman, an army man and now a race car driver 🏎🏁

It made me think, when did we lose our innocence and ability to dream? 💭

Nowadays, even though I would love to be an archaeologist with a country pub, it’s not practical and will not pay the bills- it would however make me so happy 🤩

So when did we lose that hope, and our ability to imagine a life of our dreams?

BUT

Since starting this biz, we have dreams again!

Granted, they’re a little different to a pub and an archaeology degree, but they’re ours and something to work towards 👊

Wanna watch us do the hard yards to get to our goal of going on the road in our van for a few months at a time to show our kids this amazing country??

When we started this business, it was purely to make money, I’m not gonna lie 💲

We saw the amazing opportunity that we had in front of us, and we grabbed it

We saw the potential of what it could do for us financially 🤑

We had no idea that we would get so much more! 💥

We had no idea the relationships and connections that would come of it, actual friendships 💕

We had no idea about the personal growth and change that we would see in ourselves 🧘‍♀️

We had no idea how much I (Jena) was craving a purpose and a goal to work towards 💝

Someone asked me recently, if given the opportunity to choose again, would you still say yes?
