🏘️ DETACHED DUAL OCCUPANCY CLEARS ANOTHER HURDLE 🏘️
I am pleased to report that the initiative to permit detached dual occupancy on acreage lots is a small step closer.
After the motion I moved at the June meeting was carried, the matter was referred to our "Hawkesbury Local Planning Panel" - a group of subject matter experts to give their opinion.
I attended and addressed the Panel in a private capacity to support the initiative.
The potential issue they flag about land use fragmentation is a legitimate one, but can be adequately addressed by (for example) ensuring dual-occupancies share a single driveway, letterbox and water meter. This is not subdivision by stealth and I would not support it if it were.
Pleasingly, the Panel have endorsed it. This means the matter will return to the Council chamber in August. A further vote will be required to then advance the proposal to the State's "Gateway" process.
Then, the timing of further progress will be out of our hands.
