A tree sculpture created by chainsaw artist Eddie Freeman in 2012 will be removed from Sorell’s Pioneer Park on Thursday due to 'extensive decay'.

The sculpture, which features a variety of local fauna and historical elements from Sorell’s pioneer days, was carved into an old tree by Freeman using a chainsaw and die-grinder.

The Sorell Council says leaving the sculpture in place is a safety hazard, but they plan to carry out conservation work to salvage as much of it as possible to repurpose it.
