‘The Brokenwood Mysteries’, back on NZ screens this weekend, has been viewed in no less than 150 countries and the ‘alarming murder rate’ in a very Kiwi country town continues unabated in Series 11.

RBA talents have made a big contribution over the years and this season is no different- with first appearances from Owen Black and Tonci Pivac, and returning characters played Sean Duffy and Joel Tobeck.

The Pike River story builds momentum

The heart-wrenching story of the Pike River miners and their families has been brought to the screen by Rob Sarkies and writer Fiona Samuel. The central characters are played by Melanie Lynskey and Robyn Malcolm, with a strong supporting cast that includes RBA’s Ian Mune and Arthur Ranford. A powerful trailer has been released ahead of the world premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on June 7, a precursor to the cinema release in October.

An awesome effort.
Hitting our cinema screens this week is Forgive Us All: a post-apocalyptic horror western, the self-funded debut feature of an amazing Kiwi couple, starring the rugged Southland landscape, some top Australian talent and RBA’s own Lawrence Makoare and Zack McCracken.

The End of The Golden Weather is the start of something big.

The Court Theatre in Christchurch re-opens tonight, May 3rd, the rebirth of a theatrical legend in a stunning new building.
To celebrate the occasion the first production harks back to the Court’s beginnings: Bruce Mason’s The End Of The Golden Weather. And featured in the cast is another legend - Sir Ian Mune KNZM OBE

RBA’s Ian Mune has a unique relationship with The End Of The Golden Weather.
One of his professional highlights was bringing this Kiwi classic to the big screen back in 1991, so reconnecting with the original in his first appearance at the Court is a pretty special occasion. Even more since this adaptation was originally created by another RBA legend - the late Raymond Hawthorne.

It will be a night - and a season - to remember. Our congratulations to all involved!
