Fab 5 Freddy - “Change The Beat” (1982)

Released in 1982 on the Celluloid label as part of series of 5 12” singles that included by tracks by Phase II and Grandmixer DST all with the iconic rear cover art by Futura. Unfortunately I don’t have this one with the picture cover.

A-side (French version) by Fab 5 Freddy
B-side (English version) by Beside
Produced by Bill Laswell

With one of the most recognisable, Dj samples: “Ahhhh, this stuff is really fresh!".

This has been sampled, scratched, cut up and used in countless battles over many decades. It’s a straight up classic!

The back cover is part of a Futura 2000 artwork, that links up with 4 other record covers.

The five covers that link up are:
1 : D.St. & The Infinity Rappers - The Grand Mixer Cuts It Up
2 : Fab 5 Freddy - Une Sale Histoire
   B-Side / Fab 5 Freddy - Change The Beat
3 : Phase 2 (2) - The Roxy
4 : The Smurfs - Smurf For What It's Worth
   Tribe 2 - What I Like
5 : Futura 2000 - The Escapades Of Futura 2000

HENRY MANCINI The Cop Show Themes
1972-76

Another 70’s TV themed album. Kojak / S.W.A.T is nice and funky, Baretta Theme and Police woman as well. He gets funky on this one. Mancini is the man!!! Lots of breaks, horns and a tight rhythm section.

Rhythm Heritage - Disco-Fied (1976)

Rhythm Heritage were a studio-based disco-funk collective, assembled by producers Steve Barri and Michael Omartian featuring top-tier session musicians.

Released in 1976, Disco-Fied, kicks off with the title track “Disco-Fied,” and follows with some funky originals and cover versions but the track “Theme from S.W.A.T.” is the track you need the album for. A hip hop staple for DJ’s in the 80’s, sampled a number of times as well. A nice slice of 70’s cop themed disco-funk. The track went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning a Gold certification. “Baretta’s Theme (Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow)” is another one I always look for. There’s so many cover versions, from easy listening to jazz versions some are better than others.

Tracks
1. Disco-Fied
2. Caravan
3. Baretta’s Theme (Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow)
4. Theme from S.W.A.T.

The Blackbyrds – City Life Fantasy Records (1975)
In 1975, The Blackbyrds delivered what would become one of the most iconic albums of the jazz-funk genre ‘City Life’? released on Fantasy Records. Produced by legendary trumpeter and mentor Donald Byrd, the album is built around his the funky grooves he was known for. Backed by a tight rhythm section, the band members were all former Howard University students. Members assembled by Donald Byrd. Musicians Kevin Toney (keyboards), Orville Saunders (guitar), and Keith Killgo (drums) helped define the group’s signature sound. The album became an essential record for hip-hop DJs and producers during the 80’s and 90s and is still sought after today.

The album opens with the now-classic “Rock Creek Park”, a hypnotic, bass-driven jam that's been endlessly sampled by hip-hop artists. With its irresistible groove and playful vocal hooks, it remains one of the band’s most recognizable tracks. Equally infectious is “Happy Music”, a dancefloor-ready anthem that charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and R&B charts.

Side A
1. Rock Creek Park
2. Thankful ’Bout Yourself
3. City Life
4. All I Ask
Side B
1. Happy Music
2. Love So Fine
3. Flying High
4. Hash and Eggs

The album’s was recorded at The Sound Factory in Hollywood and mastered at The Mastering Lab, giving City Life a warm, analog depth that stands the test of time.

City Life was a commercial and critical success:
* #1 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart
* #3 on the R&B Albums chart
* Certified Gold

Anyone have any information about this cassette. The cover and tape is different to the Discog entry which has a coloured cover.
Manufactured under licence by Big Time Records. Distributed by EMI Group of Companies.

I’m guessing it’s a later reissue but can’t see a lot online.
