October is Domestic Violence (DV) Awareness Month is the US.
BUT, DV is a social vice that needs to be addressed all the time.
On that note, it was a moment of pleasure and an honour as I got to sit down with two pillars of Narika - An organisation dedicated to address DV and work with survivors in the Bay Area, US.
Narika was founded in 1992 by a group of immigrant women, who identified the need for domestic violence services in the local communities of the Bay Area. These women opened the doors of Narika by use of an informal familial model of service, engaging victims as sisters rather than clients, and helping in several different languages. Their initiative duly evolved into the organized non-profit that today proudly serves the Bay Area as Narika.
Jayati Sinha brings over 17 years of banking experience from Australia to her role as Senior SEED Advocate at Narika. Her deep understanding of financial systems and her passion for empowerment make her a powerful ally for survivors of domestic violence. Jayati believes that financial literacy is a cornerstone of independence, especially for those rebuilding their lives. In addition to her professional expertise, Jayati actively uses her passion for dance and arts to build community. In her journey as a Domestic Violence advocate, Jayati is learning about empathy, resilience, and is looking at bringing authenticity to her advocacy work.
Shubhi is the Community Engagement, Volunteer, and Donor Relations Manager at Narika. Before joining Narika, she has been an entrepreneur, creative strategist, global program manager and community builder. Shubhi has spent many years curating events and meaningful experiences. Her work has always been rooted in one belief: that when people come together with intention and compassion, transformation begins. At Narika, Shubhi brings her creativity, compassion, and deep commitment to women empowerment into everything she does. She is passionately building Narika’s volunteer base which she has named, “The Compassion Squad”, where people from all walks of life come together to support and spread knowledge about Narika’s mission and services. She brings her immense event planning experience and helps plan and organize many community events at Narika. She is also supporting building donor relations that bring in important donations to support our clients and services. For her, this role represents more than a career — it’s a calling.
Please have a listen to our conversation, the facts presented and help us spread more awareness around DV.
