Weapons (2025)
This week we are reviewing Weapons, Zach Cregger’s 2025 supernatural horror starring Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan — seventeen children vanish simultaneously at 2:17am and nobody can explain why.
Both hosts picked this one apart and neither held back. Seventeen missing children in a small town, and Josh Brolin’s investigation involves drawing lines on a map with a ruler and politely asking a neighbour if he can check their security camera. The neighbour says no. He accepts this and leaves. *”Who is writing this crap?”* The Aussie, who picked the film, has no answer.
The final showdown — in which Brolin holds a woman with supernatural strength for a full minute without finishing the job, despite Benedict Wong having dispatched someone in two seconds earlier — is described as *”moronic”* and *”Hollywood gone bad.”* The Scotsman and the Aussie are, for once, in complete agreement.
The concept is brilliant. The overlapping chapter structure is clever. Amy Madigan as Aunt Gladys is genuinely unsettling. The ex*****on, however, does not come close to matching the premise.
Superstitions spiral out of nowhere — ladders, umbrellas indoors, feng shui, a T-intersection property that cost a friend hundreds of thousands in lost buyers. The Aussie claims no belief in the supernatural. He will not open an umbrella indoors. The contradiction is noted.
Rohan Reminisces covers 2025, including the Coldplay kiss cam moment that broke the internet. It is, by the Scotsman’s own admission, a short segment.
Ratings: 2.3 from the Scotsman, 1 out of 5 from the Aussie. Both would rather rewatch Sinners. High praise it is not.
