Ep. 317: Feeney Files with Jessie McCrone is out now!

Listen here: https://linktr.ee/sociallydemocratic

Did you miss us last week?

Not to worry. Stephen, Jessie, and David are back with a full episode covering all the major (and some minor) stories in politics for the month of September.

Here’s what’s on the agenda:

✅ Albanese’s upcoming visit with Trump. What will it look like, and what is the aim, exactly?
✅ Jacinta Allan’s visit to China. Talking tunnels and making friends.
✅ Are the Greens returning to form? Greens Leader Larissa Waters has some choice words for Labor’s new emissions targets, and David thinks it signals something deeper.
✅ Charlie Kirk, the perils of extremist thinking, and the implications for Australian political discourse.
✅ Migration across Europe. How it is fueling the right, and how the left is fumbling their response.

👉 Plus listener questions, and more!

Ep. 316: Benita Explains it All is out now!! Listen here: https://linktr.ee/sociallydemocratic

On August 31st, March for Australia spilled across the streets and into the headlines.

But who organised it? And if not the neo-Nazis of Australia’s far-right National Socialist Network (NSN), then why did their notorious leader Thomas Sewell take the main stage in Melbourne?

Guardian Australia's Victorian State Correspondent Benita Kolovos sits down with Stephen to explore:

📣the complexities behind the rally’s messaging,
🔍myths and lies about immigration,
❌and the attack on Camp Sovereign.

Plus, get the backstory on Victoria’s historic Treaty Bill, Dan Andrews’s visit to China, and the housing plans that have sent some inner Melbourne residents into a frenzy.

Ep. 314: Right Notes, Wrong Order with John McTernan is OUT NOW!

Listen here: https://linktr.ee/sociallydemocratic

💰In June, Keir Starmer’s Labour government proposed significant cuts to disability benefits for the UK's most vulnerable citizens.

🟢 With his party holding a clear majority in Parliament, there should have been no issue getting it done.

💥 But in a surprise move, 126 Labour backbenchers rebelled - refusing to vote for the cuts, which had no basis in any real vision beyond saving money, or a bald “cash grab” as Starmer’s detractors put it.

☝️ This was just one of many high profile gaffes for the troubled government, which has now been surpassed in the polls Nigel Farage’s right-wing nationalist Reform Party.

❓❓So what went wrong, and can Labour recover before it’s too late?

John McTernan, Former communications director for Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Julia Gillard, sits down with Stephen Donnelly to spill the tea.
