CASTING CALL – Short Film “I AM AMAL” | Creative Movies

Creative Movies, a Melbourne-based independent film collective whose films have received international festival recognition and awards, is casting for its upcoming psychological drama “I AM AMAL.” We are looking for passionate Melbourne-based actors to join our next compelling short film production.

Genre: Psychological Drama / Thriller

Synopsis
I AM AMAL explores identity, perception, and the fragile boundary between reality and fear. When an unexpected incident disrupts an ordinary day, the lives of several individuals become entangled in a tense and emotionally charged situation. As the truth slowly unfolds, each character must confront their own fears, assumptions, and the consequences of their actions.

Roles

Anna
Female | 40–45
Caucasian or Asian actor
A central character whose emotional journey drives the story. The role requires strong screen presence and the ability to portray fear, shock, confusion, and vulnerability through subtle expressions.

Dinesh
Male | 40–45 (Non-speaking role)
A character closely connected to the unfolding events.

Police Officers (2 roles)
Male | 40–50
Male or Female | 30–40 (Non-speaking)
Actors should convey authority, seriousness, and realism.

Location: Melbourne
Shoot Period: April–May 2026

About Creative Movies
Creative Movies produces independent films exploring multicultural voices, human experiences, and social themes. Our recent short films have received festival selections and awards including Best Actor, Best International Short Film, and Best Screenplay, offering actors valuable exposure through international festival submissions.

Note
This is a non-paid independent project, but actors will gain experience and the opportunity to be part of festival submissions. Refreshments provided during shoot.

As we close 2025, we are proud and deeply grateful to share that our short film “Ekti Cup” has received its 20th award — Best Foreign Short Film at the Siliguri International Film Festival.

Our heartfelt appreciation to the Siliguri International Film Festival team and jury for this honour, and to Mr. Bhaskar Roy, Vice President at Techno India Group, who kindly collected the award on our behalf.

We end the year with gratitude, humility, and renewed purpose — ready to continue telling stories that connect hearts across cultures and borders.

What an extraordinary journey 2024–2025 has been for Creative Movies! This year brought us unforgettable moments, global recognitions, and one very special milestone that united our community.

A Special Highlight — SEEN & HEARD (30–31 August 2024)
Our proudest moment was launching our own screening showcase, Seen & Heard, in collaboration with ACHRH at Showbiz Cinemas. The two-day event celebrated powerful storytelling around mental health, emotional resilience, and multicultural voices. Audiences, filmmakers, and community members came together in a warm, inspiring atmosphere—marking a beautiful milestone for Creative Movies. ❤️
