Part 2 of Fishbone Friday is up on our Substack—The Other Side Of The Counter.

Fishbone's story is not mine to tell, but there are parallels in my life that mirror their story.

Growing up in New Jersey and what a place like that leaves on you — the casual bigotry, the hurt that came from people you cared about, the power dynamics you learn young, and the friends who showed up anyway. It carries down to a broke, couch-surfing move to the Florida Panhandle, still chasing the sense that the world had more to offer.

"To this day, I walk into situations wondering what face people are looking at me through."

It is amazing how music, albums, bands, shows, flyers trigger so much in me.

I was trying to explain to a friend why some songs or albums, they may not be appealing on a massive scale or even to me now, still hold heaps of importance to me. For those that know this band no doubt may have a permanent place for them in a play list or fondness in a locked door in their brain. I have seen this band so much in my past and these 2 shows that I can believe I even still have fliers for came to mind. Another one comes to mind with Call the Police (Portland) in Oakland on 51st in a warehouse and one in Seattle with I think Forward from Japan, but could be wrong. So many great bands played with these legends. Born/Dead, Skitsystem, From Ashes Rise, Deathreat, Kylesa, Damad, His Hero Is Gone… I could go on, but get your own memories these are mine…

No but really stoked for the ears that find there way to this band or any adjacent to them. Be kind to the world and humans, s**t is hard humane isn’t far from human but seems really far from humanity at the moment.
