For those who don’t mind being scared, new to the cinema this week is “Evil Dead Burn”.

The Odyssey remains on top of the list for the most sessions, and also for a very unsettling horror scene.

Today, we’ve highlighted two films described as masterpieces. The new "Odyssey", and the old "Sleeping Dogs", in tribute to the legendary Sam Neil.

This was his first major role, and the first 35 mm colour feature made entirely in New Zealand with a local crew.

You can stream Sleeping Dogs with captions on Kanopy, which is free to access through most municipal libraries.

***Subtitled screenings this week***

Subtitled movies this week include “Primavera” and “The Captive”.
Different centuries, different struggles, and different languages, but they share a powerful idea: creativity cannot be locked up.

***Primavera (Italian, French, and some Latin. English subtitled)***
Set in 18th-century Venice, a talented student is set free by the music and revolutionary teaching of Antonio Vivaldi. The film shows how creativity can break through barriers.

***The Captive (Spanish. English subtitled)***
An historical drama following Miguel de Cervantes (the author of Don Quixote) as he uses the power of storytelling to survive captivity in Algiers: his imagination remains free, even though he does not.
