The Victorian government must give Daryl the funding. he needs to complete the search of the mine to try and find Terry‘s remains, or he will never be able to rest.

In the meantime, their lack of response causes added stress and pain .

The brother of schoolboy Terry Floyd, who disappeared 50 years ago, has accused the Victorian government of breaking its public promise to fund the search for his remains.

The new Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Mike Bush spoke yesterday about the need to free up uniformed police to tackle crime, including creating “investigation support” and “file briefing” teams staffed with civilians. He also wants to tap into a large pool of retired officers.

One of the most respected and experienced of those retired officers is former Homicide Detective Charlie Bezzina, who has been working pro bono on the Terry Floyd case, for more than a decade. Charlie has prepared a comprehensive brief on the case, including the crucial evidence of witness Elizabeth Gribble, and several other supporting witnesses. His information is included in the Missing Persons brief which is now before the Coroner, who is deciding whether to re-open the inquest.

Charlie has repeatedly asked for access to the official investigation file so that he can help bring Terry's killer to justice, but he has been denied. He has made a key recommendation to the police on how to advance the investigation, but it has been stonewalled by the government solicitor.

I had a brief chat with Mike Bush at a social function on Saturday night. While it was difficult to convey the full details of the case in a short conversation - nor was it the appropriate place to do so - the new chief did listen with interest, and said that he would follow up.
He said that he understood where I was coming from. "I'm an investigator, I get it," were his actual words, and I felt he was sincere.

I hope that VicPol will finally open the door to Charlie. Maybe then Daryl will finally find out where his brother's remains are.

We have great news from Daryl Floyd to share... Three very kind and generous people - Tammy Wardlaw, Rhett Olver and Matt Noble - donated this incredible gold nugget to raise funds to help complete the search of the mine. Today Daryl has announced that specimen, dubbed “Terry’s Heart of Faith“ has been sold. He will now be able to get back to the mine to complete maintenance work before the dig can continue.

June 28, 2025, marked 50 years to the day since Terry Floyd disappeared.

At 4.45, the moment he was lost forever, Daryl Floyd and his supporters gathered in the exact location on the Pyrenees Highway in Avoca, where everything changed for the Floyd family.

As the dark of night fell, and we felt the chill of winter, we could only imagine how alone and frightened Terry was standing there all those years ago, with no way of getting home.

June 28 also marks the passing of Dorothy Floyd, who died 12 years to the day after losing her son.

A new plaque and rose garden were established in front of the Avoca Post Office, thanks to the push of Tammy and Cr Bec Wardlaw, and the Pyrenees Shire Council. This marks the last place that Terry was happy and safe.

Around the corner is the white roadside post where Terry was likely abducted and murdered. Daryl laid a wreath in that spot.

Sincere thanks to everyone who turned up to support Daryl, including the key members of his team: his wife Louiza, puppy Kelly, nephew Kane, his partner Sarah, and Daryl’s nephews Koby and Jai. Reminder: Memorial in this Saturday, June 28. You are invited to join Daryl Floyd and the key members of his support team at 4pm on High Street, Avoca, out front of the Post Office, then at 4.30 at the corner of the Pyrenees Highway and Barnett Street. Daryl will lay a wreath in memory of his missing brother.
