The January (Polycarbonate) by Artemis Design Studios featuring Keykobo Red Alert

This build is finally complete. It took me a while to commit to a 60% layout again, but I wanted something close to the Moontower v3. After seeing a friend’s January, I was interested enough to track one down—and luckily, he was willing to sell me his.

The frosted polycarbonate case works well with almost any keycap set, but I went with Keykobo Red Alert to make up for missing out on the earlier rounds from GMK and Keykobo. Safe to say, it fits the build perfectly.

These are the XLLAB x Haimu Rock Tactiles, graciously sent by Unikeys. They’ve reignited the nostalgia of my early days in the keyboard hobby, a time when tactile switches were my go-to choice. Over the years, I drifted away from tactiles as I explored the vast world of switches, but the Rock Tactiles have officially brought me back.

After over a week of use, I can confidently say these switches are a joy to type on. Their smooth factory lubing, 18mm single-stage spring, and distinctive metal inserts create a typing experience that feels both refined and exciting. The sound profile is crisp yet smooth, with a clean bottom-out that’s incredibly satisfying, thanks to the metal inserts.

What truly surprised me is how comfortable they are for daily use, despite their heavier tactile bump. If you’re on the hunt for tactile switches that combine smooth factory lubing with a unique and enjoyable typing experience, the Rock Tactiles are worth checking out.

My only gripe? The thinner pins. But beyond that, these switches are nearly perfect.
