Someone has nicked an Automatic External Defibrillator – or AED – from a Mildura water park, and fair dinkum, it’s hard to overstate how low that is.
These things aren’t just fancy gadgets – they’re used when someone’s in sudden cardiac arrest, and that’s no small thing.
Cardiac arrests have seen a sharp spike in Australia (and the rest of the world) since late 2021, so having one of these nearby can mean the difference between someone walking away or never getting back up.
Cops reckon the AED was ripped straight off the wall at the Hugh King Drive park sometime between 5pm on Monday 2 June and 10am Tuesday 3 June.
The thing’s worth about three grand, but its real value is in giving the public instant access to life-saving help.
And where did it end up? Not sold to fund a dodgy gambling habit. Not passed on to someone who might actually use it. Nah, the thief dumped it in a bin nearby.
Now there’s one less AED for locals if someone drops in the wrong place at the wrong time – all because someone thought it’d be a good idea to flog it.
