Lately, we've been happy to find that more of our work has been with organisations wanting to embed co-design into their planning and implementation. Including community engagement as part of strategic communication development, remains one of the most powerful ways to build trust and truly understand the people we serve.

It creates a space where people feel seen, heard, and valued, sharing not just information, but lived experience, local knowledge, and personal stories that shape community identity. With so many organisational strategies and activities seeming to be driven by metrics and compliance, engagement can feel transactional and distant, like a 'tick-a-box' exercise.

Human exchanges anchor us. They offer nuance, empathy, and insight. When we take the time to listen deeply, we uncover the stories that reveal what matters most to people and create pathways for meaningful participation, stronger relationships, and more authentic community-driven outcomes.

We love nothing better than having conversations because in a world increasingly driven by automation and rapid information exchange, simply talking, asking questions and waiting for the answer, remains one of the most powerful tools we have for genuine human connection. A thoughtful interview or conversation isn’t just a transaction of facts, it invites people to share their lived experiences, emotions, and perspectives. These moments of openness become the foundation of storytelling that feels authentic and deeply resonant, reminding us that real voices and real stories carry a meaning that automation cannot replicate. When we pause to listen, we uncover the nuance, honesty, and humanity that help stories not only inform, but truly connect.

Advocating for the health and wellbeing of regional and rural communities is critical and for the last twelve months we have been proudly supporting the Alliance of Rural and Regional Community Health. From refreshing their branding, to creating key advocacy documents, we have worked alongside ARRCH in a shared commitment to elevating the needs of regional Victorian communities, and to ensuring their voices are heard around the table as decisions are being made.

Helping organisations tell their stories is at the core of what we do. Last year we were proud to partner with Mallee Sexual Assault Unit (MSAU) to deliver its Annual Report.

With a transformation agenda, MSAU is focused on expanding its range of services and strengthening the way it works with clients, stakeholders and communities.

"We are so clearly needed in the Mallee region, where we have one of the highest rates of reported family violence in the state. The most important thing we can do as a response agency, is to do our job well." - MSAU CEO Leigh Rhode

With fires devastating regional communities across Victoria this summer, Kirsten reflected on a story she wrote for the latest issue of Mildura Living Magazine and the importance of supporting regional Australia.

"I recently met Anna and Lachlan Sutton, a couple writing a new chapter in farming. Red Dirt Lamb isn’t simply a business, it is a way of life defined by Anna and Lachlan's determination to forge their own path, nurturing their land and supporting their community.

"I was left in awe of their energy and faith in each other. They have chosen the life of farming, not because it is easy but because they believe it matters. The contribution regional people make in this country is sometimes overlooked but without our farmers and the industries and communities that support them, where would we be?"

You can read about Red Dirt Lamb in the summer issue of Mildura Living Magazine, out now.

Our Director of Strategic Communications, Kirsten Lloyd, has just completed a number of interviews for Mildura Living Magazine and reflecting on that, we asked her why she still loves what she does.

“I write a lot of profiles about people. Some of them are well known, some of them are not but they all have a story to tell. I love the process, sitting down with someone and having a conversation, finding out who they are, what drives them and what matters to them. People are fascinating.

“I recently met Australian Superbike Champion, Josh Waters. This is a guy who defies almost every stereotype; he is humble and shy. As far as 'interviews' go, it was challenging because the last thing Josh likes doing is talking about himself. Over a couple of strong coffees, I teased out his story and discovered that for Josh, winning races comes second to family and celebration is always measured by gratitude.

“AI might give you an overview of facts and figures, but it will never give you a story with all the shades of personality. It doesn't capture the nuance, and layers of the lived experience. Only writers can do that.”

You can read Kirsten’s story about Josh in the latest issue of Mildura Living Magazine - in stores now.
