This mistake was slowly destroying our house… 😳
Turns out having the concrete on your front verandah HIGHER than your front door is… not ideal. 😂
Over the years, previous owners had poured more concrete over the old slab until eventually it ended up higher than the front door threshold.
So when it rained, water could make its way into the hallway — and after years of that, the old timber floor inside had started rotting. 🫠
The old verandah came down ages ago, but before we can pour a new slab at the correct level and eventually put the verandah back, all that concrete had to go. 🔨
And underneath it? Apparently someone’s old rubbish disposal system. 😂
An old kettle, car wheel rim, a chunk of rail, broken glass, pottery, an old open-ended spanner… and plenty of other random treasures.
Apparently at some point the solution was simply “If it cracks… just concrete over it again.” 😂👌
So yes, the Horror Reno currently looks slightly worse again… but we’re slowly undoing decades of questionable decisions so we can put this beautiful old girl back together properly. 🥹🏡
And maybe keep the water OUTSIDE this time. 😂
