Renovating a 115+ year old abandoned & an 80s brown brick house at the same time in rural South Australia 💪

We definitely ignored this for WAY too long… 😅

The kitchen garden has been overgrown and neglected since before we bought our abandoned 115 year old stone farmhouse — but today we finally took it back 🌿

And of course… we had to set ourselves up with the right safety gear first, so we both picked up some new work boots from at before tackling the kitchen garden jungle. (They’ve honestly been so comfy too — if you’re on the lookout for a new pair, definitely worth checking them out.)

From overgrown and forgotten… to something we actually love 🥹🌿 (swipe to see the before 😅)

Slowly bringing this old farmhouse back to life, one space at a time.

This space was giving:
• abandoned
• overgrown chaos
• random rubbish + “we’ll deal with it later” energy 🙈

There was even an old rotten bench we’re still trying to save…
and a forgotten greenhouse that’s currently being cleared out 👀 (future chicken coop incoming 🐓)

But somehow… it’s starting to look like THIS 🥹

We’ve gone from
“where do we even start”
to a space we actually want to spend time in 😍

Still so much to do — plants, irrigation, finishing touches…
but bringing this place back to life has been the best kind of chaos.

And honestly… we’re a little bit obsessed now 🥰 (this feels likes a good cup of tea sitting spot ☕️)

And we’re only just getting started 👀

If your relationship can survive renovating together… it can survive ANYTHING! 😂

Renovating with your partner (REAL TALK)

Is it always easy?
Absolutely NOT. 🙊

You guys usually see us smiling and laughing on here… but the truth is it's not always sunshine and rainbows 🌈

Some days one of you is so exhausted you can barely function… so the other one has to pick up the slack.

Some days you want to Saturday-night pub brawl each other (not literally 😂) over something completely ridiculous…

(Like what shade of white paint to buy).

Some days the money is flying out of your wallet like it’s got a giant hole in the bottom 💸 and the reno bills just keep stacking up.

But the real question is…

Is it still worth it? 🤷🏽‍♀️

AB-SA-BLOODY-LUTELY.

Because it’s the little things.

Celebrating the tiny wins together…
Finding the perfect piece for the house…
Seeing the reno slowly come together.

The looooong country road trips to Bunnings or IKEA where you sing at the top of your lungs in the car the whole way there and back

(with absolutely zero singing talent between us 😂).

The understanding that comes from being in the trenches together…

Especially on the days where you're both
hot, sweaty, and smell like a dumpster fire 😅

So yes… some days are tough.

But getting to build something together with your best friend every day is actually pretty special. 🥰

The Brown House Reno: Demo Edition 💪

We’re officially at the “there is no turning back now” stage.

Jack (aka Tarzan the Builder 🦍) has been swinging through rooms smashing out walls like it’s an Olympic sport.
Cade The plumber’s been rerouting pipes like he’s playing 4D chess.
Gary The sparky has officially sent the 1980s wiring into retirement ⚡️
And Jason’s been deep in the trenches swinging his hammer, covered in dust and questionable life choices.

Meanwhile, I’m out here flexing like I personally demolished the entire place 😂 BUT I did do plenty of the demo work too! (it was a dusty, sweaty, team effort)

And that laundry shower wall? Took THREE of us to bring it down. She did not go quietly.

Demo nearly done.
Plumbing roughed in.
Electrics stripped back.
Confidence high.
BUT savings… getting lower 💸

Send us prayers, a vacuum, And ibuprofen.

SURPRISE! We’ve added a new reno project to the chaos… because clearly one wasn’t enough 😅

Don't worry... The Horror Farmhouse is still our main project (she’s not going anywhere 🏠), but this little brown beauty is getting the glow-up she deserves too.

We're OFFICIALLY halfway through the reno chaos 🫠 (and what better way to celebrate than with a photo dump 😜)

There's definitely still more dust than floor, but we’ve officially entered the “light at the end of the tunnel” phase (we think… we hope… send help 🙃).

2026, you better be ready — because we’ve got plaster dust in our hair and plans on the wall 💪

Every room may still be a work in progress, but big changes are coming as we're now moving into the "picking out new bits" part of the reno and we're BL**DY EXCITED 😍

Our final dose of sunshine, salty air and serenity with the rat pack before diving back into the Horror Farmhouse Reno 🙃

Back to the dust, chaos, and never-ending to-do lists.... wouldn’t have it any other way (we think 😅).
