The Brisbane Tritons Water Polo Club launched its new brand yesterday. Brave had the fantastic pleasure of working with the Tritons to develop the new brand positioning and identity that better reflects their aim of a being living example of what it means to be an LGBTIQ+ inclusive sports club.
We began by identifying what ‘inclusive’ means for the club, resulting in the ‘Brisbane Tritons Manifesto’ that outlines who they want to be for their members, allies, and LGBTIQ+ community.
The take their name from the Greek demi-god of the sea, Triton.
The new Brisbane Tritons brand identity draws its inspiration from Triton, who had the power to raise or calm seas or mobilise his mythical tritons into action through the trumpeting call of his conch shell.
For the Brisbane Tritons, this references their call to bring together people from the LGBTIQ+ and broader community to play water polo. The waves represent the waves of change the Tritons will affect by being a voice for the LGBTIQ+ Community.
The logo’s central element is a fluid wave that moves across the logotype, following the conch shell outline and culminating in the swirl of a breaking wave to form the ‘o’ in the ‘Tritons’ word.
