📍Mary Kathleen Town & Uranium Mine

An amazing experience.

Camping at the abandoned Mary Kathleen town in Outback Queensland is like stepping into a forgotten world.

In the mid to late 1900’s, Mary Kathleen township was home to thousands of residents, most worked on Australia’s largest known uranium deposit at Mary Kathleen Mine.

They enjoyed a bustling village community with a school, Olympic-size pool, open-air cinema, golf course, two churches and a hospital. When the Mine closed and the town closed, all the buildings were removed.

You can now camp on the vacant slabs of the previous township. It’s free and self-sufficient camping, with no facilities—just peace, space, and a touch of eerie history. The stillness is surreal.

Visit the mine site which is now filled with the most exquisite blue water.

📍Quamby Pub, Quamby, Qld

Last drinks were served in Quamby pub in 2013, leaving it abandoned until it was purchased in 2022. The pub was rebuilt and opened again in 2023.

This was one of our favourite pub camps to date. Cold beer, great food, fabulous atmosphere, and the most amazing sunsets!

Definitely a must stop on everyone's adventures..
