I can’t imagine what it must be like to look at grazing paddocks like this.
The amount of water that fell in this area recently has been quite astounding. The sights accompanying have been just as amazing.

Wedgetail Eagle's nest, Oodnadatta Track, South Australia. Seeing this nest in the massive wide open landscape in the Central Australian desert country makes you realise just how hard some animals have to work, just to survive. Love the outback.

Photography for me is more than a creative outlet. It can often be a cover story and a mask from reality. Yesterday was a good example of this.
I’m rarely comfortable enough to go out and enjoy an afternoon walk with the crowds of people in places like the Newcastle Foreshore, but with a camera in hand I can.
I have a purpose to be there, which gives me confidence. I have a quick pre-loaded conversation if someone decides to have a passing chat. I can hide behind the lens if I need to.
So with all these things in mind, a couple of spare hours and a brand new lens in hand, it was time to visit my regular spot which is a (not so well known) feature on the Newcastle Foreshore which is pretty close to my heart. The sculpture is titled ‘Resilience’ with the subtext ‘Mental Health & Wellbeing’.
I tried to capture the light and dark sides in the afternoon setting sun surrounded by beautiful skies which spoke to me in the moment.
I hope everyone can find things like I have to manage the chaos in their own lives, whatever that may be.

Amazing weather hit Newcastle after a 40 degree day 28 Jan. Great chance to test a few different techniques of capturing lighting on the Lumix gear. Shot on the S5ii using the 16-35mm S Pro.
Tried using the in camera Live View Composite, some longer exposures adding some ND, and the Pre Burst rapid shooting function to back capture the last second after strikes happens. Great fun in some wild weather. The last photo I took was the (way too close) lightning strike looking back at Stockton from the northern breakwall. Got soaked obviously but lucky the camera is weather sealed!
