Driver Killed in Bus and Car Crash on Central Coast

A driver has died following a collision between a bus and a car on the NSW Central Coast overnight.
Emergency services were called to Scenic Drive at Colongra shortly before 7.30pm on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, after reports of a crash involving a bus and a car.

The driver of the car, believed to be a 26-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The male driver of the bus was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. Police confirmed there were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the crash.

Officers from Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, assisted by Tuggerah Lakes Police District, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact Tuggerah Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers.

Man Fatally Shot by Police During Central

A critical incident investigation has been declared following the fatal shooting of a man by police during a prolonged siege on the NSW Central Coast.

Just before 3.30pm on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, police attended a home on Wells Street, Springfield, to conduct a welfare check on the occupant.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District attempted to speak with a 49-year-old man; however, police allege he armed himself with a screwdriver and other sharp objects.

A perimeter was established and specialist police resources were called to the scene.
Police continued communicating with the man for several hours, but he allegedly refused to cooperate.
About 9.25pm, police allege the man attempted to burn an officer by igniting an aerosol can.

Officers attached to Tactical Operations Regional Support (TORS) then gained entry to the premises.
Police allege the man armed himself with a sharp object and stabbed at an officer multiple times. In response, police discharged their fi****ms, fatally shooting the man. One police officer sustained a minor injury during the incident.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene; however, he died from his injuries.

A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
