I thought there wouldn't be much to say this week because I've been busy with family issues, but it seems I was wrong.

Gingerbread people and houses, the Council makes some decisions, a Christmas party, recognition of service, jumping and dumping on companies that don't do the right thing, a couple of morons. And the usual schools and sport.

Important news if you live in the same part of the town as Oberon Matters.

Please be advised that all town kerbside waste collections will take place on Wednesday, 24 December 2025.

Residents who are normally scheduled for a Friday bin collection (26 December 2025) must place their garbage bins out on Tuesday 24 December instead. Normal collection operations will resume the following week.

⚠️ FIRE PERMIT SUSPENSION IN FORCE

Due to the recent and forecast conditions, the increased curing of our landscape and therefore elevated Fire Danger Ratings, fire permits are suspended until further notice in the Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon Local Government Areas.

This suspension came into effect as of midnight, Monday the 24th of November, 2025 and will extend until further notice. All permit applications recieved during this time will be rejected.

🚨 Important notice for Samsung mobile device users

Samsung and Australian mobile operators have identified a number of older mobile devices that will not correctly connect to an alternative mobile network to make Triple Zero (000) calls when the customer’s primary mobile network is unavailable. These devices need to be updated or replaced to make sure they work reliably in an emergency.

In regional, rural and remote Australia, where network coverage can be limited, this update is especially important.

What to do:
1. Check your model number.
Go to Settings → About phone.

2. View the list on Samsung’s website (link above) to see if it is affected.

3. Update your software if your model is on the “update required” list.
Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install.

4. Replace the device if it’s on the “replacement required” list.
(These are generally older models from around 2015–2017.)
