HIGHLIGHT OF THE HAWKESBURY
By Tamara Tuchin, Student Editor

For Western Sydney University students, the 9th - 11th of May was filled with cows, science, and more cows at the Hawkesbury Agricultural Show.

Western was one of hundreds of organisations on display, represented by The Livestock Team in cattle judging, as well as educational stalls from the School of Science.

Keep swiping for some images of the day!

4. Ribbons galore in the tent - hopefully they have room for more, with the team receiving several accolades from this year's competition

5. Morgan the charity steer was raised by the and auctioned off at the Show. He raised $2240 for Pink Finss Charity (), which provides assistance to those facing cancer.

BACHELOR OF SACRIFICE: Navigating Work Life Balance
By Tamara Tuchin, Editor ()

So many tasks, so little time...

Students are told to balance life, work, and study; we're told to get fresh air, have fun and keep our mental health up; we're told to work and volunteer and apply for placements and internships.

What gets sacrificed when the scales don't balance?

"It's uni, then work, then uni. What, am I meant to have one day a week to myself?" - Issrae Barghachoun.

MODERN RELICS: The De-Extinction of Dire Wolves and Their Impact on Modern Ecosystems
By Chloe Kucharski ()

As the first generation of a species that straddles the line between extinction and existence, these are not just wolves reborn. They are a test.

The question now is not whether we can bring back the past. It's whether we should, and what kind of future we're willing to build with the answers.

The birth of these Dire Wolves is a remarkable scientific achievement. But science cannot stop with simple creation, it must also guide integration.

“So many tasks, so little time... Students are told to juggle life, study and work - but what gets sacrificed when the scales don’t balance?”

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australians spend an average of 10 hours and 35 minutes a day on necessary things like sleeping, eating, personal care, health, and hygiene. That’s 74 hours a week.

“I do have to sacrifice work or uni sometimes, but I usually prioritise uni, as that’s the foundation of my future.”

WSU sacking 400 Staff: STOP THE CUTS!

What’s happening?
On the 16th of April 2025, Julie Hare reported in the Australian Financial Review that Western Sydney University is planning to cut 400 staff to stave off a projected $80 million deficit. In response, student advocates formed the ‘Stop WSU Cuts’ group on the 17th of April 2025. Stop WSU Cuts will campaign to save University staff jobs and demands that education be put before the profits of the University bosses.

“Education is a human right; we are paying for a quality education. It’s WSU’s job to supply that, not to increase their already large profits.” writes Bachelor of Occupational Therapy student, Julia Disney. “Lord knows how burnt-out our uni staff are. My heart already goes out to them and how hard they work. Last thing they need is to be even more understaffed. ”

WESTERN SYDNEY UNIVERSITY HAVE COWS 🐮🐮🐮

500 kilos each of pure beef. And they’re fluffy. What’s not to love?

Buckeye, Myers, El Dorado, Morgan, Bundy and Kraken (who also goes by Nugget) are your new favourite cows. They’re also about to be famous, with all six of them appearing at the Hawkesbury Agricultural show 9 - 11 May

The boys are 10 months old, and have been raised and trained by our very own on the Farm at Hawkesbury Campus.

Come say hi to the cows - and the amazing team!

1. Buckeye says get booked
2. Scrubadubdub for Myers. These guys have an intense beauty regime - double wash, brush, blow dry, then brush again. Try and fit THAT into your morning routine
3. Buckeye getting all the special treatment (and he knows it) - Yeah, he REALLY knows it.
4. What a (beautiful) poser
5. Morgan the Majestic, who will be auctioned for Pink Finss, a charity organisation for those with cancer
6. Morgan was a supermodel in a past life
7. Bundy (front) and Nugget (hiding)
8. New Dyson dropped... Letisha, President of the Livestock Team, giving Buckeye a blow dry
9. Cows being cows
10. Home sweet home; welcome to the barn
11. A little moo-tivation
