So many Nepalis in Australia are confused about how the health system works — and end up either paying too much or not getting help they're entitled to.

Here's what you need to know:

✅ Got PR or citizenship? You're on Medicare. Enrol at Centrelink ASAP — it's free.

❌ On a student, 485 or 482 visa? You are NOT covered by Medicare (Nepal has no health agreement with Australia). Get private health insurance.

🏥 What is a GP? Your family doctor — first point of contact for everything. You need a GP referral before seeing any specialist in Australia.

💰 What is bulk billing? A GP that charges you $0. Always ask "do you bulk bill?" before booking. Use HotDoc or healthdirect.gov.au to find one near you.

🧠 Did you know? If you have a Medicare card, your GP can set up a Mental Health Care Plan — giving you up to 10 FREE psychology sessions per year. Stress of living abroad is real. Use it.

💊 PBS medications — most prescriptions cost only ~$31 with Medicare. Without it, the same medication can cost $100+.

🌐 Need a Nepali interpreter at your doctor? Call TIS National on 131 450 — free, 24/7. Tell the clinic when you book.

1 July is here — 7 things that just changed for every Nepali in Australia

Your pay, your tax, your super — all different from this week. Here's what you need to know:

💰 Pay rise — minimum wage is now $26.44/hr. If you're on an award (hospitality, aged care, retail, cleaning), your rate goes up automatically. Check your first July payslip.

📉 Less tax — the rate on income $18,201–$45,000 dropped from 16% to 15%. About $268 extra per year. No action needed — it's automatic.

⚡ Payday Super — your employer must now pay your super within 7 days of EVERY payday. Not quarterly. Download your super fund's app and check it's landing.

👶 Parental leave — now 26 weeks (was 24). Partner days up from 15 to 20.

🔌 Energy rebate is gone — no more $150/quarter electricity relief. Your bill will be higher. Compare providers now.

💵 $1,000 instant deduction — from this financial year, you can claim $1,000 in work expenses without keeping receipts.

📱 One thing to do right now: Open your super fund app. Turn on notifications. If a contribution doesn't show within 10 days of payday — chase your employer. Unpaid super is the #1 issue for migrant workers.
