At The Drive In played one of the most infamous sets of all time at the Sydney Big Day Out in 2000

Renowned for their incendiary live shows this was a band on a meteoric rise, but on that day the flames overtook them and they burned up, on stage, in real time.

Our guest on episode two of The Invisible Ink Podcast - Paul Drake - was on that tour and gave us some behind the scenes insight into an event that had occurred before that very show. This was an incident that may have poured the last of the gasoline on the smouldering embers of tension within the band that caused the fire to consume them in front of bewildered punters at the famous festival

!! SECOND GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT !!

Joining us for Episode Two is Paul Drake.

Paul has had a remarkable career as a tour manager and photographer.

He was deeply entrenched in the burgeoning US alternative music scene of the mid to late 90’s and continued to work alongside an incredible array of bands for decades.

Paul was in the van for the early days and exponential rise of bands like Jimmy Eat World, At The Drive In, The Get Up Kids, The VSS and many more.

He went on to work with a huge list of amazing bands. As well as being their tour manager Paul used his time on the road to document the journeys these bands undertook in his inimitable visual style.

We discussed what it’s like to “babysit” artists, the DIY approach to touring, the rise into international fame for many of the bands and the journey of Paul’s life beyond the tour van.

It was a real treat to talk with Paul and we can’t wait to drop the episode on all platforms this Tuesday!
