Today I’ve been reflecting on Acts 2:42: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
The book of Acts really is like the best kind of sequel. The story of what happened after Jesus rose from the grave.
The early church faced persecution, drama, and all kinds of challenges, yet the Bible says they “continued steadfastly” in teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. That phrase always grabs me. They didn’t give up when it got hard.
When we gather, we hear God’s truth together, and it anchors us against the lies and distractions around us. We find fellowship, the connection we were created for, so that when we’re low, others can speak life and faith into us.
We break bread, sharing communion and meals that remind us of what Jesus has done and put everything else in perspective. And we pray, believing that when we come together, heaven moves. I’ve seen miracles and breakthroughs happen because a community invited Jesus into the middle of it.
So I want to encourage you: don’t give up on gathering. If you’re not part of a church community, get around one. And if you’re not a Christian, come along anyway, just turn up and see what it’s like. You might just experience God, and that’s never a bad thing.
