After months of wrangling rubble, restoring windows, and waving goodbye to rot—our little horror farmhouse is finally looking a bit less haunted 🫠

But now we’ve hit the next frontier: the front door.

The current one… well, let’s just say it's pretty rotten and termite eaten 😬, so we’re off to the salvage yards to hunt down a solid door with a frame and a transom window in the right dimensions 🙃

Wish us luck rummaging through the yards—we’re on the lookout for something beautiful and SOLID to compliment this old gal 😍

Stay tuned for what we dig up—literally and figuratively. 😅

Hey, we're Jazz & Jay 👋 Welcome to our little corner of chaos!

A quick intro for all the new faces (hi! 🥹) 👇

We’re a couple in our 30s who packed up our life in Perth, W.A., sold nearly everything we owned, grabbed our sausage dog Mia 🐶, and crossed the Nullarbor in a van (which Jazz is also converting into a campervan, check out our "Van Build" highlight 🚐)...

All to chase down a wild dream of restoring a 115+ year old abandoned stone farmhouse in an old mining town on the Yorke Peninsula, S.A. (crazy right 😅)

Yes — it’s falling apart. Yes — it’s mildly haunted.
And yes — we’re absolutely winging it 😅

We do have a background in renovating… but this is our biggest, boldest (and most stubborn) project yet as well as being our first stone house renovation... but we're up for the challenge 💪

We’ve been lucky to have some incredible legends help us on-site too — because trust us, this place needs ALL the help it can get 😅

💛 Thank you for being here — your support, comments, and encouragement mean more than you know. It’s the fuel that keeps us moving when the house throws another surprise at us (and it always does).

Here’s to rescuing forgotten places, saving a piece of history, and having a laugh while we do it. 😊

🩷 Jazz & Jay (and Mia 🐾)

A big moment for this old beauty — the last window on the stone part of the house is officially in 🪟✨

This one wasn’t easy. The walls were uneven, there were remnants of dragonfruit 🌵 roots still lurking between the stones, and we questioned a lot of life choices in the process… but standing here now, looking through the frame into the future kitchen garden and paddock beyond, it suddenly all feels worth it 🥹.

It’s just a window — but it’s also a turning point. One more piece of the puzzle. One more breath of new life into a home that’s waited so long to be seen again.

And yeah… Jason may look chill in this photo, but just know there was a lot of swearing and group man muscle power before those thumbs went up 😂

POV: You dragged your partner to a live show... and now he might be on board to buy a French chateau 😂

Last night we went to the Forever Home Tour with none other than Dick & Angel from Escape to the Chateau — and yes, we got to meet them (!!).

Jazz has watched just about every château renovation series known to man (if she’s not renovating our own horror farmhouse, she’s watching someone else tackle theirs in rural France). And let’s just say, her search history is 80% “affordable French château for sale.” 👀

Jason was gently persuaded to come along but ended up loving it — wholesome laughs, great stories, and a whole lot of inspo for when we finally get our own crumbling château one day.

Who else has followed their journey or dreams of a French fixer-upper?

No more wire shadows, no creaking tin panels and no more rusted frames — just golden light stretching over the back paddocks.

It’s wild how much beauty is waiting underneath all the mess. You may still see all the rubbish we need to clear but this view still deserved its moment 😍 The sunsets hit different now the aviaries are gone and our view is unlocked ✨

Some couples buy throw rugs.
We buy ride-on mowers and pretend to know what we’re doing with it 😅

Jason’s now in a committed relationship with "Barry (Big Baz)” and im afraid once his battery is replaced i might not see him walk anywhere again 😂

We may still be working out how to tame Big Baz the beast…
But when we do know we're going to be cutting our grass in style 🍺.

She’s been hiding under layers of fake brick tiles and old glue… but the fireplace is slowly finding her way back to former glory.

That ornate timber mantle? Still holding on... (she just needs a little TLC). Soon, she’ll sit centre stage once again — in the dragon Fruit Room (to see why we call it that, watch back through our horror reno highlight reel 😂🌵).

One tile at a time, one reveal at a time — the beauty’s been there all along. Just needed a little rescuing 😍.

Would you have kept the fake brick tiles? Or did we do the right thing?👇

Looking out through what used to be a window — now just a dusty hole in the wall with a view. 👀

Soon, this spot will overlook a kitchen garden full of herbs 🌱, veggies 🥕, and a few romantic cottage flowers 🌷all framed by a new window... but for now, it’s a quiet pause — a glimpse of what was, and what’s about to be.

It also represents the celebration of the vacated dragon fruit plant that used to grow through the walls and smothered any sunlight from coming in! 🌵

This week was all about stone, sweat, and surprise issues (because of course there were 🫠).

We’ve been uncovering the original stonework around the farmhouse — some parts are solid gold, others… not so much.

Between crumbling mortar/lime, unexpected cracks and gaps, a few resident animals living inside the walls, and a few “wait, that’s not supposed to move” moments, it’s been a week of rescuing what we can and rebuilding where we need to.

Slow progress, but solid progress 🛠️ (Also officially covered in lime dust 90% of the time)

Ever restored stone before? Got any tips for old farmhouse walls? 👇

Tools down for the weekend… Mia's orders 🐾

After a big week on the reno site, we’re taking a much-needed pause to soak up some fresh air and spend time with our project supervisor Mia 💖

She’s been very vocal about the lack of beach time and belly rubs lately… so we’re making it up to her 🐶

Back to swinging hammers and chasing pigeons out of the roof tomorrow — but today, we rest 💪

What have you been up to this weekend? (Comment below 😊👇)
