Thanks to CAC Young Eagles for having me speak last night.

I shared my journey from CPL to firebombing - and yes, we absolutely took a mandatory break to watch the Emirates A380 depart. Some things are non-negotiable 😉
Young Eagles is a brilliant programme for 14-18 year olds serious about aviation, giving real exposure to industry pathways and opportunities.

A week at Waikuku, sand in our shoes
Sunburnt noses and salt-tangled views
Bike rides and beaches, rain drifting through
Then back came the sunshine, bright, fresh, and new

The bouncing pillow launched laughs to the sky
While I still glanced up as the odd plane flew by
Camping to slow down, yet there I remain
Holiday heart… but eyes chasing planes

It’s more than chasing hours or ticking boxes.
It’s answering something deeper - the pull to fly, to serve, to be useful when it matters.
When what you do is part of who you are, getting up feels natural.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you’re enjoying yourselves wherever you are.
This year has been a great one for me. As well as spending some quality time at home, I had a great time firebombing in Australia and Greece. Flying the Fireboss for the first time was a real highlight, and I loved every minute of it.

A special shout-out to those working today, especially the pilots, crews, engineers, emergency services, and anyone keeping things moving while the rest of us pause. Your effort doesn’t go unnoticed.

Stay safe, enjoy whatever downtime you get, and thank you for being part of the journey.
Jimbo

Wind is always part of the game in ag ops, but it’s the one thing you can’t muscle through. When it starts throwing the aircraft around, it’s time to respect it. Call it, head home and tie her down.

Plenty more paddocks tomorrow - only one you.

Our next Episode is up, and she's a doozy! Richmond "Ditch" Harding, one of the most respected Ag pilots around, and one of the very few who cut their teeth in the Tiger Moth!
