Major is making good progress on class with his new owner, Tony. They took a bus ride together yesterday, and our picture shows how Major tucked himself away under Tony's legs, his tail curled in neatly. GDMS Rhiannon Isaac was impressed and said: "Major is so good on the bus."

Many blind and partially sighted people rely on buses and trains to get around, so it's vital that dogs like Major can travel confidently and calmly on public transport, and we're grateful to the operators who allow our dogs and puppies to gain experience.

For people who are blind or have low vision, getting around safely can sometimes feel challenging.

That’s where Orientation and Mobility (O&M) support can help.

Orientation and Mobility is about knowing where you are, where you’re going, and how to get there safely.

At SensesWA, our Orientation and Mobility Specialists work with people of all ages who are blind, have low vision or are deafblind.

Every person is different, which is why our specialists begin with an individual assessment and create a personalised plan.

To celebrate International Guide Dog Day, we’re teaming up with The Camfield for a dog‑themed quiz night on 28 April - and everyone’s invited!

Alongside plenty of quiz fun, the night will feature a dedicated Guide Dog trivia round. 🐾 Our ambassador dog, Greg, will be there to say hello, and there will be GDWA merch available to purchase, with funds supporting our services.

It’s a chance to get together, meet new people, raise awareness, and have a few laughs - all while helping us support Western Australians with low or no vision, disability, or illness.

Today is World Parkinson’s Day: The day highlights the progressive and degenerative condition of the central nervous system. Parkinson’s disease can affect many aspects of life, including movement, mental health, sleep, and pain.

Parkinson’s is recognised as the fastest-growing neurological disorder, with 38 Australians diagnosed every day, including five individuals under the age of 40. It is more prevalent than breast, prostate, and lung cancer combined.

The condition is complex, featuring more than 50 symptoms that are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Common symptoms include tremors, stiffness, slowness of movement, and changes in facial expression. Additionally, anxiety, fatigue, pain, sleep disturbances, and depression.

This Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we stand with those living with Parkinson’s, as well as their families and caregivers. It is essential to continue advocating for greater awareness, understanding, and support.
