All the ingredients for a tight one at MNC Drilling Park are here.

Joondalup haven’t conceded 30 points in a single game all season, and that defensive discipline is the way to stay in this contest. Their attack however must lift — Only once this season have they cracked 20 points in a game. Against a side like Willagee, they’ll need more than effort; they’ll need a little bit of polish as well. The home ground advantage, provides upset potential.

Willagee meanwhile, carry one of the competition’s most dangerous attacks and with the second‑best defensive record, they don’t leak much either, which makes them brutally hard to chase down.

The last meeting was tight, Willagee didn’t blow them away last time, and they’ll know Joondalup can frustrate them if they’re not switched on.

The Empire pick for Match of the Round is at Charlotte’s Vineyard Pavilion.

Ellenbrook Rabbitohs — Sitting 5th, right on the edge of the four. A win keeps their top‑four push alive and keeps pressure on the teams above them, and signals they’re not just making up numbers in the middle pack. Lose, and they risk slipping back into the logjam.

Fremantle Roosters — Locked into 3rd regardless of the result, but a win maintains a 2‑point buffer and keeps them in striking distance of the top two. They’re not desperate but will want to maintain that breathing space.

South Perth will arrive at Wellard Oval humming. Last week’s milestone celebrations didn’t distract them — they amplified them, putting on a statement performance that reminded the competition they’re every bit as ruthless as the Bears when facing teams below them on the ladder.

Kwinana come off their first bye of the season — a timely reset in their inaugural Premiership campaign. The break would have given them space to sharpen combinations, tidy discipline and reinforce the growth they’ve shown in patches. They’re still learning what it takes to compete for 80 minutes at this level but each week shows more promise.

2025 Grand Final Rematch (Take 2)
Ellenbrook and Fremantle meet again. The undefeated, benchmark of the competition against last year’s Premiers who are still searching for rhythm in a disrupted season.

The Rabbitohs have become the standard everyone is chasing. Six rounds in, they’re unbeaten, confident, and still adding layers to their game. Their Round 1 win (20-0) over Fremantle wasn’t a fluke — it was a statement of intention for 2026. Ellenbrook’s strength this season has been their consistency and defensive desire. They’re not just winning — they’re controlling games. This is the type of matchup where the Rabbitohs can reinforce their status as the competition’s pace‑setters.

Fremantle - The ladder position flatters them, they have only one win on the board, and their spot in the top three is largely thanks to bye points. A stop‑start schedule has prevented them from building any real momentum. They’ve rarely had back‑to‑back weeks of football. As the season rolls on and the games finally come consistently… will the performances follow? Last year’s premiers still have the talent and the ability to trouble anyone. A strong showing here would signal that Fremantle are finally settling into the season and a win would sound warning bells to the rest of the competition.

Will Fremantle prove they’re still a threat? Or will Ellenbrook show that the gap in the competition has widened?
