Tonight on Talking Horses 🎙️

We’ll be chatting with Claire McNaughton, who recently enjoyed success at the 2026 State Dressage Championships and has a pretty remarkable story with horses 🐴

Claire has lived with multiple sclerosis for many years, but rather than allowing it to end her riding, she has continually adapted and found ways to keep doing what she loves. Her journey has taken her from England to Australia, through Thoroughbreds, para dressage and her special partnership with Digby, a former racehorse who has gone on to achieve some wonderful results with her.

Joining Claire on the line will be her partner Murray Lindau, a lifelong horseman, harness racing trainer and driver with more than 200 winners to his name. Murray has also been a huge support to Claire as she has continued riding and competing.

This is one all horse owners should listen to, because when something goes wrong, knowing what to do can make a huge difference!

Tonight we’re chatting with David King, a Senior Operator with the NSW State Emergency Service and an experienced educator in large animal rescue.

David has spent many years helping develop safer ways to rescue horses, livestock and other animals during emergencies. He’s also Chair of the Animal Emergency Incident Management Network (ANZ), bringing together emergency responders, vets, animal welfare organisations and other key stakeholders.

David is in Perth this week delivering large animal rescue training with the WA Horse Council, covering everything from risk assessment and animal behaviour to restraint, rollovers and rescue techniques.

What happens when a horse needs to be rescued? Why is specialised training so important? And how prepared are we for large animal emergencies in WA?

There’s plenty for horse owners to think about in this conversation, so be sure to tune in!

We’ll be chatting with Anna Minogue, a Certified Equine Dentist and professional bit fitter with more than 25 years of experience with horses.

Based in Queensland, Anna is also a qualified Veterinary Nurse, with qualifications in emergency and critical care nursing, surgical nursing, veterinary practice management, equine husbandry and management. She has also spent time working with the small animal and equine departments at Colorado State University in the US.

With plenty to chat about when it comes to horses, dentistry and bit fitting, we’re looking forward to our long-distance chat with Anna this evening.

These days she’s juggling her career in agriculture with a young Warmblood mare, as well as running her own equestrian business, DVNY Saddlery.

Join us as we chat about Marcia’s riding journey, the mentors who have influenced her and what she thinks has changed most in the horse world over the years.

With eventing, showjumping, racing and polocrosse all part of the family history, horses have always been a big part of Rhys’s life, while his passion for agriculture eventually led him to build Limerick Farms into a major producer of meadow hay for the equine market.

So what actually makes good hay? What should horse owners know about testing, quality and annual ryegrass toxicity? And how is the hay season looking this year?

We’ll be chatting with Dolly van Zaane, whose remarkable 50-plus-year career in the horse industry has taken her from a riding school in Amsterdam, to an Arabian stud in South Africa, and eventually to some of Australia’s most influential warmblood breeding programs.

Dolly began working with horses at just 16, but it was many years before she was able to buy her own horse. From that first mare, she went on to develop the DVZ breeding program in Western Australia, with a lifelong passion for genetics and breeding.

We’ll talk about the importance of the mare line, some of the horses Dolly bred that went on to success in dressage, jumping and eventing, and the legacy her breeding program has left for the next generation.

A fascinating guest on Talking Horses this week! 🐴🎙️

Tonight we’ll be chatting with Dr Sarah Sly of Coastal Equine Vet in Geraldton, whose journey to becoming an equine vet has taken her from California to Hawaii and eventually to Western Australia.

Sarah has an interesting story to tell, and her work sees her and her team treating horses across the Geraldton region, as well as heading on twice-yearly trips into the Gascoyne, Murchison and Pilbara, providing veterinary services to horses in some of our most remote communities.

We’ll talk about life as an equine vet, the challenges and rewards of the job, what it’s like providing veterinary care across such a huge area, and what reproduction season looks like in regional WA - along with plenty of other equine topics.

After a week off while our host Simon enjoyed a well-earned holiday, the Talking Horses team is back with Maddy Georgiades, veterinary physiotherapist and founder of MG Veterinary Physiotherapy.

Maddy originally trained as a human physiotherapist before completing her Master’s in Veterinary Physiotherapy. She’s also a dressage rider and coach, qualified saddle fitter and a nationally accredited medical classifier in para-equestrian sport.

Tonight we’ll chat about veterinary physiotherapy, recognising subtle signs of pain and physical problems in horses, rehabilitation and performance, and how Maddy’s experience in the saddle and as a saddle fitter influences her work. We’ll also find out more about her work with dogs.
