Gourownway

Gourownway I've been touring around Australia since October 2022 and still haven’t completed “The Lap”. I’m on a quick trip Overseas while my new vehicle is being built.

Hope you enjoy the pics from here and also when I get home to Oz! Bring on the next chapter! Thank you for taking a look at my page. I took the plunge to travel full-time in October 2022......
I've already been to some amazing places and seen some fantastic things. But Australia is sooooo big....I need some help to find all the amazing things out there. If you know of anything please let me know and I'll add it to my ever growing list of "Must Do's"

The Robert Taylor Worldwide Arms Museum in Vung Tau is mind blowing!!!!

His collection of weapons and military equipment, from the last couple of centuries is mind blowing!!!!

There are 4 buildings full of swords, guns, armor, crossbows, uniforms and well the list just keeps going!!!

If you’re in Vung Tau this is a must do!!!!

We picked up the bikes today and went for a quick run to get used to them. The ride out to Long Tan was a good one.
The visit itself to the memorial definitely stirs up some feelings….
I have been told about a movie called “Danger Close” which apparently is very close to how the battle unfolded. I’ll check it out at some stage.

Vung Tau - Vietnam
I’ve come down here to catch up with a mate for his 60th and then do a week long Bike ride up to Da Nang.
I haven’t done any site seeing yet but did find this seafood market which is in the street behind the hotel!!!
How I wish I had a full kitchen to cook in!!!
The seafood here is amazing!!!
Most of it can be bought live, so you know it’s fresh!!
The fish is beautiful, again if you know seafood you can tell it’s fresh…
Next time I’m here I’m renting a villa so I can do some cooking!!!!!

Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Tour….
This was an absolutely massive day!!
7am to 7.30pm
To be honest m, this is a tour that I should have split over a couple of days.

The Cu Chi Tunnels is a day trip by itself and well worth doing.
To see what the Vietnamese built in 4 years is incredible.
250klms of tunnels
Up to 3 levels. 3,6 and 9 meters deep.
Very very tight.
And all built by hand!!!!
I braved the trap door but couldn’t make myself do the 100 meter long tunnel. They assured us that it was very safe having been widened and reinforced with concrete……but I could not get past the first room and backed out….

The Mekong Delta is a tour in itself and I think deserves a couple of days. The Delta is enormous and what we saw just wet my appetite to see more…..

So long story short. If you doing this trip, split this over at least a couple of days.
If you’re short on time, do the Cu Chi Tunnels from Ho Chi Minh, and leave the Mekong for your next visit.

Another quick photo dump from last night.
I went for a wonder along the Nguyen Hue Walking Street.
There’s heaps of bars, eateries, shopping, hotels etc along here.
The area is used by families and street performers as well. There were kids playing soccer and all sorts of other games. The space has a really safe and family friendly feel which was great!!
I had yet another Pho, which was amazing!!! I found a few roof top bars so I could get a view of the street from above as well….
There’s an old apartment block that was vacant until the Walking street was built, it’s now rented by bars and cafes, such a great idea!
Hope you enjoy the pics!!!

Saigon Scooter Food Tour……
What a fun night this is!!!!
There’s a heap of tours to chose from.
I went with the 12 course including seafood which ran from 6-9ish.
The guides were amazing fun, spoke very good English and were very knowledgeable about the food and culture of Vietnam.
The food was amazing!!!
We ate heaps!!!! And really it was too much food, but it was great to try so many things.
Stand outs were the Beef Noodle Soup, Choui Nep Nuong (grilled banana wrapped in leaves which is then combined with rice and coconut milk) soo good.
The oyster and Scallop were amazing as well.
Bonus for the tour was a behind the scenes walk through of the flower market and seafood market..
PLUS
The scooter ride thcity is crazy fun!!!
I highly recommend this tour if you’re in town.

The Independence Palace, also known as the Reunification Palace, was built on the site of the former Norodom Palace in 1962-1966.

The Norodom Palace was originally built by the French when they occupied Vietnam from 1868, but it was bombed in 1962 and damaged beyond repair.

The Independence Palace represents the traditional philosophy, the oriental rituals, and the characteristics of the Vietnamese people.

There is a lot more history made within these walls which is easily accessible online so I won’t ramble.

It was great to visit and I hope you enjoy the pics……

The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City…..where to start….
The Museum is a collection military equipment, pictures and a whole lot of information about the Vietnam War.
The information is very real and very confronting (perhaps not the right word) all I can say is there hasn’t been anything held back.
I struggle to comprehend how humanity can be so cruel to each other.
I applaud the curators who put it together for telling the real story, about both sides…and the 1 thing I can take from the Museum is that the war has definitely not been glorified as is the case a lot of the time.
I stopped taking pictures as I couldn’t share them.
And
There are sections of this museum I wouldn’t take children either.
But
It is definitely worth going to see, and something the should not be missed while visiting Ho Chi Minh…..

Ho Ch Minh City - Vietnam
This place is a lot to take in!! The traffic seems to be chaotic but flows better than any city in Australia!! Or I dare I say it, better than my old stomping grounds of Port Macquarie!!! The traffic flows and merges amid the sounds of horns….its incredible to see.
The color at night is amazing with bill boards everywhere!
Food options are endless, and something I’m really looking forward to with a Food tour booked for tonight!
Oh and the humidity…..it found me today!!!
Here’s a quick photo dump, with lots more to come!!!
