You're ready to unleash your inner explorer, but surprise! It's a public holiday and everything's closed, even the tourist hotspots. Yep, happened to me on Romanian Easter during my Euro adventure. Do you brave the holiday shutdown or stay put?

Although this was taken a while ago, I wanted to show what Japan looks like outside the summer season. As you can see, winter can be quite chilly 🥶, especially in the Tohoku region. The last photo could have been taken in spring at the Bamboo Forest.

Oh and speaking of Aomori, did you know that they had an underground fish market from what I recall? You can also try Japanese curry with scallops.

February is probably the coldest month there, so your puffer jackets is going to be your most supportive friend.

Is winter in Japan your thing?

📍Vilnius, Lithuania.

The last of the Baltic States series. After stepping off the bus, I was given a rainy welcome. 🤗 Arriving at the hotel was an adventure in itself as it took around an hour to get there. Mainly because I decided to take the scenic route and take several buses.
The old town has a majestic feel that makes you want to wander around it all day. I wish I found a Lithuanian language book though. This is a souvenir I like to buy in every country I visit, a beginners language book.

Vilnius is named after the river Vilnia. It means to roll or to spin.

Would you add Vilnius to your travel list or are there other parts of Lithuania worth checking out too?

Sounds like this is a trip of a lifetime. Would love to see more tours like this.

📍Riga, Latvia

After my time in Estonia, I continued my journey through the Baltic States. I travelled with LuxExpress and wound up in Riga. Like Tallinn, I had no idea what to expect other than what I saw on Google Images. Riga had its own charm but also quite different from Tallinn. To me, the scenery had more of a forest feel to it. Also Riga was a larger city for me than Tallinn. Even though the snow is not present, do not be fooled, being your jacket. I only had thin jackets and thus I caught a cold. 🥶

Would you add Latvia to your bucket list?

📍Tallinn Estonia

As I walked off the ferry from Helsinki, I could somewhat see the old town from the distance. I had no idea what to expect, apart from what I saw on Google Maps.
However, I was greeted with historical architecture and a dining experience to never be forgotten. I took my taste buds on a tour in Tallinn food courts.

Apparently Tallinn used to be called Reval which may be derived from German. Also the name Tallinn is believed to mean Danish Castle.

Duolingo and apps like it are the language apps of choice for pre-trip prep, but d- they're not just about perfecting that phrase, they're also doling out cultural subtleties to get you in the mood for your getaway.

Spring in Helsinki is like a winter wonderland. The snow enjoys hanging in and around the city. However, it offers a unique April experience. Riding the trams in Helsinki also feels like a step back in time on some routes.
If you plan to come to Helsinki in spring like I did, a few things you should consider:

- I know your suitcase may not like it, but pack thermals and boots. I did not pack proper shoes and I ended up having to buy boots there.

- Try to organise your train tickets prior if you bought a Eurail pass. I assumed it was like other passes and I could just hop on and off.

-Have an idea on what you want to see. You don’t have to have a day to day itinerary but you may be asked some icons you are planning to go to. I was asked this.

-If you find your clothes are itchy like I do, pack some thermals that are made of cotton if possible. Not only are they warm but the itchy feeling tends to disappear too.
