Great weekend in the Hunter Valley for the Red Hot Summer Tour with Crowded House headlining a solid lineup of bands. Thanks to Daniel Ramadge for getting us there. First time for a while our accommodation hasn’t had wheels!

✨ Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse & Beach ✨

Perched above the rugged coastline of Seal Rocks, Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse stands as one of NSW’s most scenic coastal icons. Built in 1875, this historic beacon still watches over the Pacific, offering panoramic views that stretch endlessly across turquoise waters and rocky headlands.

Take the short walk up to the lighthouse for breathtaking photo spots, then wander down to Sugarloaf Beach — a pristine stretch perfect for a quiet swim, beach walk, or spotting dolphins playing in the surf. 🐬🌊

We’ve enjoyed another visit to Point Plomer Campground, last time we were here our visit was cut short by cyclone Alfred so we couldn’t wait to return. The campsites are large and well grassed, tucked between bushland and golden sands and the perfect base for exploring this stunning stretch of NSW coast. 🌊✨

Long beach walks lead to quiet corners like Back Beach, where the waves roll in and the last of the whales cruise south — a magic sight this time of year! 🐋💙

When the tide’s right, we’ve been casting a line for bream, whiting and flathead, with a few fresh catches for dinner each day by the campfire 🔥🎣 🌅🌿

After a difficult period and what seems like forever, it’s finally good to be out and about in the van again. Looking forward to a week with family before hitting the national parks for some ‘us’ time!

Living history - Dunlop Station, near Louth NSW,

The bustling sheep property was home to the world’s first fully mechanised shearing shed in 1888 —with 184,000 sheep shorn under one roof at its 45-stand woolshed. Dunlop station once spanned a staggering ~1,000,000 acres—a vast pastoral empire.

Fast forward to now, and the property is a fraction of that size—about 880 ha— lovingly preserved by the Chandler family, who continue to transform it into a living museum of the life of Sir Samuel McCaughy and his immense pastoral empire.

The homestead, Store and Woolshed tour is a stroll through yesteryear—from the elegant sandstone homestead with high pressed-metal ceilings, timeless carpets, and open fireplaces, to the authentic store, and the atmospheric shearing shed where history still lingers.

We loved the stations unpowered campsites along the Darling River nestled among river gums and coolabahs. In the still of night you can feel the echoes of paddle steamers that once docked at the wharf, the clang of shears, and to stand where pastoral giants made history. It’s not just a tour. It’s a conversation with heritage, held over a cuppa and framed by fading remnants of Outback life.

🍺🌅 Tilpa Pub & Camp area

Rolling through the Darling River Run into Tilpa? Don’t miss the legendary Pub – a classic outback stop with cold beers, cheeky graffiti-covered walls, and good yarns with locals. Just a short stroll away, the Tilpa pub offers a peaceful spot by the Darling River to unwind under the stars.

The Tenterfield area is known for Peter Allen and his tribute song wriiten about his grandfather George Woolnough who worked as a saddler in town for 50 years.

But its also the location where Sir Henry Parkes delivered his famous Tenterfield Oration. A speech calling for the colonies to unite under one federal government, a bold vision that would eventually lead to the Federation of Australia in 1901. 🗣️✨.

It was also the home of Lieutenant Harry ‘Breaker’ Morant and Major JF Thomas who defended Morant as portrayed by Jack Thompson in the 1980 film Breaker Morant.

But did you also know Banjo Paterson who spent a lot of time in the granit belt proposed to his beloved Alice at the breathtaking Boonoo Boonoo Falls in the wild of the New England ranges.

Nearby, Glenrock Station, Alice’s family property, was where the romance blossomed — a slice of Australian history nestled in rolling hills and timeless country charm. The Glenrock homestead gardens remain open for visitors to admire today. Truly linked in the regions rich history

It was with a sad heart that we said our final farewell to Deb’s dad ‘Clyde’ this week just before completing his 86th lap around the sun

As one of the original grey nomads he taught us a lot about life on the road. He always had a yarn or a word of advice as we planned our trips. But his strongest advice was to just get out there and don’t wait.

We would like to share a poem penned by his granddaughter, Kaila in tribute.

The Road Pop Left Behind

Pop didn’t go in silence,
Nor vanish from the day,
He left us in the rearview
With love to light the way.

His hands once turned the spanner,
Knew every engine’s song,
And mapped the roads of wonder
Where all our hearts belong.

He loved the open highway,
The caravan, the stars,
Each journey was a story
Told in dust and vintage cars.

We still can hear his laughter
When wheels begin to roll—
He didn’t just drive roads, you see,
He navigated soul.

He showed us how to wander,
But also how to stay—
To treasure home, and family,
And never lose our way.

Though now the seat beside us
Feels empty, still and wide,
Pop rides with every sunset
That warms the countryside.

So let us keep him close in smiles,
In stories that we share—
For love like his keeps traveling
On every breath of air.
