Welcome to Stein am Rhein situated on the banks of the Rhein River known for its well preserved half timbered medieval houses with painted facades dating back to 1007 AD.

Walked up to St.Georges Abbey which overlooked the town with spectacular views, once back down to the old town enjoyed a walk along the Rhein River then off to see The Rhein Falls the largest and most poweful waterfall in Europe which was formed 15,000 years ago during the last ice age and finished the day off with a surprise picnic back in Zurich by the river organised by Julie's son and his partner which was a great way to end the day.

Joined by some of the family hiking up to Bachalpsee Lake. Lifetime memories enjoyed by all.

Today we walked along the Lauterbrunnen Valley to take the cable car up to the Swiss mountain Village of Murren.

Murren sits at an elevation of 5374 feet above sea level and dates back to 1257 with its timber chalets and amazing views of the Swiss Alps.

Stopped for a Cheese fondue 🫕 lunch which has been on our list since we last visited the Swiss Alps and a great view to sit and have lunch.

To walk the Cheese Fondue 🫕 off we decided to walk back down through the picturesque village of Gimmelwald which also dates back to the 13th century.

Ventured up to Kandersteg a high Alpine Village located at an elevation of 1200 meters in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland 🇨🇭, known for its traditional wooden chalets and mountain peaks.

Then it was game on we hiked up the challenging Allmenap trail which took around 90 mins straight up really tested the heart rate and fitness but once we conquered the climb the view of Lake Oeschinensee with an elevation of 1578 meters which was formed by prehistoric landslides was well worth it.
Once there we were just glad to sit and recover had lunch by the lake taking in the spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Visited Lake Brienz which is just north of the Alps it has a length of 14 kms and a depth of 260 meters it is famous for its striking turquoise blue water caused by tiny glacier sediment particles and it's dramatic mountain backdrop.

Walking around the town of Brienz you come across well preserved wooden chalets dating back to the 1700s the traditional woodcarving reflects Brienz's heritage as a renowned woodworking village with plenty of floral displays maintained by the locals and a historic and romantic lane widely celebrated and famously dubbed the 'most beautiful street in Europe'.

Perfect day for a hike so we headed to the Swiss Alpine Village of Wengen in the Bernese Oberland region dating back to 1268 which spent centuries as an isolated mountain farming community.

Wengen is known for its timber chalets. Once there we jumped on the cablecar to reach the Mannlichen slopes and trails with views, the views were breathtaking taking in the Royal Walk to the crown with phenomenon views of the iconic Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peak trio.

Whilst at the top we had the chance to just sit and enjoy the views and take in the scenery whilst watching the paragliders run and jump off the mountain.

Then it was time to hike down the from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen walking past the timber chalets through the villages, the last picture gives you an idea of the decent from Wengen.

Visited the Capital of Switzerland 🇨🇭 Bern.

Bern traces it's origins back to the 12th Century with its medieval architecture preserved in the Alstadt (Old Town).

The city landmarks are the medieval clock featuring astronomical moving puppet, the 6kms of covered shopping arcades among Europe's longest home to the city's symbolic brown bears right in the riverbank and Einstein house where Albert Einstein developed his Theory of Relativity!

In 1405 a massive fire swept through the city of Bern which was built
almost entirely of wood at the time destroying nearly all the structures in the town leading the city to ban rebuilding with wood and mandate the use of sandstone and stone architecture that defines the historic Old city today.

Enjoyed a walk along Lake Geneva with Mont Blanc in the background and the surrounding Botanical Gardens with a short stop at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva.

The United Nations Headquarters hosts approximately 8000 meetings every year to address global peace, human rights and disaster relief.

The Broken Chair is a 12 meter tall (39 feet tall) wooden sculpture directly across from the United Nations Headquarters weighing 5.5 tonnes, it features a massive broken leg and has served as a powerful global symbol against landmines and cluster munitions since 1997.
