🔥 Planned Hazard Reduction Burn – Googong Foreshores 🔥
ACT Parks and Conservation Service (ACT PCS) are planning to commence a prescribed burn at Googong Foreshores from Saturday 18 April, subject to suitable weather and fuel conditions.
The burn is expected to run over 2–6 days and may be visible from the Googong township and surrounding areas. You may see smoke, flames, and glowing embers during this time—this is part of a planned operation.
This burn forms part of ACT PCS’s annual program to:
• reduce bush fire risk
• support ecological and cultural land management
• help keep the community safe
🚨 Important reminders:
• Please do not call Triple Zero (000) unless you see an unattended fire
• Aircraft and heavy equipment may be operating in the area
• Do not fly drones anywhere near the burn
💨 Smoke may impact nearby areas. To reduce exposure:
• Stay indoors where possible
• Close windows, doors, and vents
• Use air conditioning on recirculate
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activity
If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, make sure you have your plan in place and medications on hand.

A prescribed burn will commence on Saturday (18 April) at Googong Foreshores, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions. This burn is expected to take 2-6 days and will be visible from Googong township.
This burn is part of our annual program which aims to enhance the ecological and cultural values of our environment, reduce the risk of bushfires, and help keep Canberrans safe.
Smoke, flames, and glowing embers may be visible today and in the coming days. Please do not call emergency triple-zero (000) unless you see any unattended fire.
Drones and helicopters may be in use at prescribed burns. Please do not operate any private drones in near a prescribed burn.
Residents can prepare for the burn by doing the following:
• stay indoors if there is smoke around.
• close all windows and doors, and block air vents in your home.
• if you have an air conditioner, use it on the recycle setting at home and in the car, and
• avoid outdoor physical activity.
