I am conducting research on one of my ancestors, my great great grandfather on my father's mother's side The story revolves around John Jackson, a convict, and I aim to share a brief overview of his life and our multicultural family.
John Jackson was a well-educated individual who was arrested in 1834 for armed robbery, classified as a highwayman in England or a bushranger in Australia. He received a 20-year sentence and arrived in Australia on the prison Hulk Mary Ann in 1835, serving seven years as a convict. An After being pardoned, he relocated to Brisbane, were he married then Banana, and eventually settled in Rockhampton. His occupations included shoemaker and bullock teamster, transporting goods between Rockhampton, Cannona, and Herbert Creek goldfields. He passed away in 1868 At the age of 52 I have a general idea of his burial location in the Southside Cemetery, although there is no headstone. Many were buried with minimal identification, often just a wooden cross with a name, which over time may have perished due to white ants or fire. His wife, Ellen, of Irish descent, is also buried in the cemetery and I am familiar with the approximate location of her grave. On my father's mother's side, our ancestry is rooted in the Spencer family, specifically the Winston Churchill Spencer line. In contrast, my mother's side boasts a rich heritage, with her father's lineage tracing back to Tasmanian Aboriginals, One of the first first half born Aboriginal To an Irish gentleman her name was Mary Seymour of hogs bay Also we have a hint of German ancestry Our family's multicultural background is truly fascinating. Most of my father's mother's side originated from Central Queensland, with early settlers from areas such as duringa, Gogango, Mount Morgan, Boolburra, Bushley, and Rockhampton. This Rich multicultural family makes us Australian especially Central Queensland born and bred. And I'm proud of it.
