India’s loss could be Bangladesh’s biggest opportunity.

After India withdrew from the FIFA ASEAN Cup to accommodate their high-profile friendly against Brazil on October 3, Bangladesh were brought in as their replacement.

Now, Bangladesh could be in line for an even bigger moment.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has reportedly proposed an international friendly against Bangladesh in Dhaka on October 5 or 6. A five-member Brazilian delegation has already visited Dhaka and inspected the National Stadium, along with Bashundhara Kings Arena.

If the match goes ahead, it would be historic — Brazil’s senior men’s national team have never played in Bangladesh.

SAFF is in talks with FIFA over a potential collaboration that could lead to the creation of a “FIFA SAFF Cup,” following a model similar to the FIFA Arab Cup and the newly announced FIFA ASEAN Cup.

The proposed tournament could give South Asian football a larger global platform and strengthen the commercial profile of the region's premier competition.

However, the idea is still at the discussion stage and has not been formally finalised.
