Ambient Den is the teaming up of Australian prog rockers Ben Craven Music, Tim Bennetts and Dean Povey (the name is an anagram of “Tim”, “Ben”, and “Dean”), who will release their self-titled debut album on July 28.

A cinematic concept record that tells the story of humanity’s search for a new home among the stars, culminating in the terraforming of a distant world, it was produced by Craven, and is inspired by the great progressive rock bands of the 1970s.

The band have been creating a short series of documentaries detailing the making of the album and you can watch the first one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeOmwzZuwA0

Pre-orders open on June 2 from here: https://www.ambientden.com/

This should be good, especially for those who can stay awake long enough!

It’s that time again where we dig into the ABC vault to bring you a month of archival goodness, and this year Retro Month kicks off with a look back at the rise of Australia’s first 'Pop Festivals'!

Featuring episodes, segments and reports from GTK, Weekend Magazine, and ABC News, rage revisits The Ourimbah Pilgrimage for Pop in 1970, the 1973 Aquarius Festival in Nimbin and Australia’s first multi-day camping festival, Sunbury Pop Festival, which ran from 1972 – 1975.

And of course, we couldn’t journey to the era of free love without a look back on the precursor to them all, Woodstock.

Expect to see a whole lot of long hair and peace signs on your telly this Saturday February 1 from 10:30am and 11:30pm on ABC TV.
