Another little milestone at Havenwood today! 🏡🌳

The geotechnical engineer was on site this morning testing the ground where our new home will eventually stand. And we got some brilliant news… hard, stable ground and apparently excellent for building! 🥳

Another box ticked and another step closer to turning this patch of dirt into our home. ❤️

Well… that escalated quickly! 🤣

Our lovely neighbour has just told us that while metal detecting on Havenwood, he discovered an 1820 British silver groat (4 pence) on our land! 🇬🇧➡️🇦🇺

So… guess who’s dusting off the metal detector tomorrow? 🙋‍♀️

I have absolutely no idea what I’ll find, but if I suddenly disappear for eight hours, don’t panic… I’ve probably wandered off following an enthusiastic beep! 😂

Wish me luck! There might just be a little more history hiding beneath our feet… 🤞

Sunday at Havenwood in a nutshell… 🥶

Started the day scraping ice crystals off the van windows, thawed out just enough to head into Braidwood for Sunday lunch at Troopers Rest with Deni. Quite possibly the best roast we’ve had since leaving the UK in 2003! 🇬🇧❤️

Then, purely by coincidence of course… there was a chocolate shop next door. It would have been rude not to. 🍫

Back home where Jo bravely wrestled three stubborn bushes out with the mini excavator. Three bushes. Several hours. One very determined operator. 😂

Now we’re ready for next week… hopefully the Volvo arrives and the Havenwood adventure rolls on!

Breaking news from Braidwood… the bed has officially reached maximum occupancy! 🤣

Two humans, three dogs, one very determined Monty under the doona, and absolutely nobody volunteering to face the frosty outdoors until the sun clocks on for work! ❄️☀️🐾

Today’s adventure took us down the Kings Highway to Batemans Bay to register our little “property runabout” and see what treasures are hiding within an hour of Havenwood. 🚗🌿

The boys came along for quality control, plenty of sniffing was completed, and we can officially report that Queensland winter clothes are completely inadequate down here! 🥶🤣

Tomorrow’s mission: warm pants! Today’s mission: back under the doona with a fluffy blanket… and three Labradors doubling as portable heaters. Best hot water bottles we’ve ever owned! 🐶❤️

🥶 Well… Braidwood has officially welcomed us! ❄️

Our first morning started with scraping ICE off Trev’s windscreen before we could even leave! Safe to say our fingers and toes are still negotiating the terms of this new relationship with winter. 😂

Jo and the dogs are adapting nicely… Carl, however, has entered a long-term commitment with his socks and slippers and doesn’t appear to be taking them off until September. 🤣

Even Xena seems to be in shock! Thankfully the diesel heater is pumping, the coffee is hot, and watching kangaroos bounce across Havenwood as the sun rises makes every frozen fingertip worth it. ☕🦘❤️

WE MADE IT TO HAVENWOOD! 🌿🥂

After a 4-hour drive from O’Connell, spotting emus, wombats, echidnas, kangaroos… and even a deer, we finally rolled into Braidwood to see the block we’d bought… completely sight unseen! 😳

Turns out… we worried for absolutely nothing.

HAVENWOOD is PERFECT. 💚

Just under 4 acres surrounded by beautiful forest. Peace, wildlife, birdsong… it’s everything we’d dreamed of and somehow even better.

I got myself so excited I had a full-blown panic attack… apparently my emotions don’t have a “low setting!” 🤣

Our very first neighbour wandered over to say hello and invited us to the local Sunday meet-and-greet. Safe to say… we’re already feeling at home.

We also popped into say thanks to Harry at Shoemark Real Estate for helping us find this little slice of paradise before settling into the caravan (thanks, Sunrise Caravans, she’s looking right at home! ❤️) for a celebratory Drambuie.

We honestly can’t wipe the smiles off our faces.

Pinch us… is this really ours?!

Next stop… working drawings, planning the off-grid house, and turning Havenwood into home. 🏡

And to all our tradie mates… the invitation is officially open! Campfire’s on us, beers are cold… payment accepted in the form of “while you’re here, could you just have a quick look at…” 😂🍻
