This was the most stressful sculpture I have even done. I have worked till 11 pm a few nights this week to get it completed, and even yesterday I was unsure I would make tomorrow’s deadline for delivery. It was dropped a few times today too, creating more headaches, but it’s finally completed.
“Meeting Place” is my entry for the Hinchinbrook Art Awards this year. The gumnuts and leaf beetles are made from Euclay, an air dried clay made from eucalyptus leaves, and the rest is thread.

Air- con, Spotify blaring and lots and lots and lots of pollen dots to paint on my next sculpture

My piece for the Euclay exhibition in Mandurah WA is ready for the framer. My relationship with the Euclay is a bit of a love-hate one. I love the ease of use, the shapes I can make and how quickly I can make them, but the painting bit I do not like at all, but for a first try, it’s turned out okay

Work in process. I was introduced to Euclay 2 weeks ago. Euclay is an air dry clay made from eucalyptus leaves, smells heavenly, and super easy to use. The day after playing with it, I was invited to submit a piece in their exhibition to be held at Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery from 26th November. No pressure 🤣🤣
So what do you do with a clay made from eucalyptus? You make a sculpture of a gum of course
All the components are made, and this is the beginning of the construction phase.
Stay tuned for the final pics

It is finally finished. And just in time, as it has to be delivered for the exhibition on Monday. I have learnt so much about designing in the round with this piece. It is in a Perspex tube, 600mm high and 400mm in diameter, and hangs from the lid. I can see I will be playing around with the leaves right up until it is delivered, but very happy

Work in progress. This sculpture has been bubbling away in the background for a few months. The cost of the Perspex tube nearly scuttled the whole idea, but what the heck 🤷Sewing 30cm long gum leaves are an experience and a half. I have 3 started in my hoop, and another 10 leaves to do after that, before I even start the gum nuts. And I need to have it completed within the next 6 weeks 😳😳😳

Another commissioned piece completed. When I saw the photos of this tree, I was immediately drawn to the colour of the leaves. Just not what I expected. And boy, am I happy that I was able to capture those colours. So happy with the final piece.
