A bloke from Crookwell, New South Wales. A jet-black 2003 Peterbilt. And a purple Dyson hair dryer defrosting frozen drum brakes in negative 20-degree Massachusetts.

Dean Croke has been in the US for nearly 30 years. His Aussie accent never falters. Neither does his connection to the road. Over 600,000 followers, millions of likes, and a weekly freight podcast. An influencer by accident, a truckie by blood.

Harry Hunkin didn't offer to help with the drum brakes. He just wanted a ride in the Grumpy Pete.

60 metres long. 110 tyres on the ground. Just another day in the Pilbara with MGM GROUP.

5am start. Collie to Perth. 200 tonnes behind him.

Before anything moves, you're asking the same questions every time. How are you going to drive it? How are you going to chain it? Where are you going to position it?

Then the day begins.

A truck. A barge. 35,000 litres of Jet A-1. 75 minutes across Shute Bay.

Colin reckons the boat ride's his favourite part of the gig. Hard to argue.

Load. Move. Repeat.

Over 150 tonnes of iron ore per run.

Sixty years in, the Giacci name still means the same thing it always has. Trusted to deliver.

The Pilbara doesn't forgive much.

34 degrees is a cool day. Drivers stop every few hours to check wheel bearings. Red dirt gets into everything.

MGM GROUP runs roughly 200 ultra-quads into Port Hedland every 24 hours.

T.J Clark & Sons has been running through the beating heart of Sydney for a century.

Draught horses first, then yellow iron, now fourth-generation custodians of a name that still means something in this town.

Standing in their Holroyd yard is a 1976 Autocar DC 9364F called Billy.

Freshly painted, old-school signwriting, and a Cat 3406B under the bonnet with that distinctive timing gear whine that makes die-hard Caterpillar fans go quiet for a moment.

A truck that found its way home.

Heavy haulage is slow going.

Max 80km/h in convoy. Every bridge measured. Every handrail stacked just so. One hold-up at roadworks and the day's gone.

"I keep reckoning I'm going to retire, but I just hang around there to see what's going to happen next."

Meet Athol. Mactrans Heavy Haulage's longest-serving driver. Coming up on 20 years with the company.

Started when the boss, Mussy Deen, had two trucks and two floats. Now he's the man in the west.

"I'm a diesel mechanic by trade, I could go back to the spanner? Stuff that. I got sick of whinging truck drivers, so I became one."
