Just a reminisce about my recently departed best mate Coco.
He was born with a heart condition so wasnt expected to live even a year. But Coco had such a strong and vibrant personality and will to live that he managed to make it to about 13 years.
Coco would wait at the gate all day for me if I was out and do his crazy dance on my return, even it was just to pop up to the market for 10 minutes.
He would come and remind me to get up around 7 every morning, and at 6pm remind me to feed his sisters. He didnt eat at the same time as them, preferring to wait and guard. He invented a little game waiting till his older sisters had finished dinner, then laying traps witha chicken neck or doggie nut as bait. Hiding he would watch, guard and wait to ambush the food thief, never aggressive but just playing. The same with hoomans who came to visit. Just his thing!
Always friendly, allways affectionate, always thinking of his sisters or his hoomans. A sheer little brown package of smiling delight.
In later life his larynx slowly collapsed and he had episodes of days where he could not breath without spasming coughs and meds to open up his airways. No effective treatment for it.
I am sure when they were bad that pure willpower kept him going when his body was fully exhausted. Any other dog or a human would give up after an hour or too, but he was a fighter and would pull through, with some love from daddy. Unfortunately when I had to leave him in the care of his grandmother, he felt abandoned and kept looking and waiting for daddy's return. Life just drained his power bit by bit until his last recent attack and he passed after a full night of fighting for every breath. Sadly missed.
