2026 · Re-introducing myself
Yaama (hello) 👋🏽
My name is Darinka Ondrovcik, and I’m the woman behind The Awakening Journey. I’m a proud Aboriginal woman from the Kamilaroi tribe, born and raised on Wiradjuri Country in Dubbo, NSW with strong connections to Angledool Mission on the NSW/QLD border through my father’s side, and ancestry that also connects to Czechoslovakia and Scotland. These stories, places, and lineages shape who I am and how I move through life.
I’m a mumma of four beautiful daughters and the partner of an incredible man. Motherhood has deepened my understanding of the importance of family, culture, and community and continues to guide everything I do.
I’ve spent over 10 years working as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner and an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse across hospital and community settings. This work has never just been a job it’s been a calling. Walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of systems that aren’t always culturally safe, and the deep need for care that truly reflects who we are.
The Awakening Journey wasn’t created from a business plan or a big vision board. It grew from lived experience, working directly in the space, community connection, and a deep belief that our women and families deserve culturally safe, gentle, and empowering support through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
As I step into 2026, I’m holding space for growth, collaboration, and continued learning. There is so much I hope to share and create, always guided by culture, respect, and community first.
If you’re new here, I’m grateful you’ve found this space. If you’ve supported, shared, purchased, or quietly followed along- thank you. Your support carries this journey more than you may realise. I’m thankful to have you here, walking alongside me.
Much love 🫶🏾
