There’s been a quiet shift in Amazon’s LEO strategy that hasn’t come with a flashy announcement - but it matters.

Recent industry reporting and regulatory filings suggest Amazon may be moving toward a more modular hardware model, potentially separating the modem from the antenna and opening the door to third-party hardware.

Amazon LEO appears to be designing its system so the modem and antenna don’t have to be one fixed unit.

That matters because it could allow different antenna designs for things like marine, RV or remote use in the future.

Amazon’s Nano terminal is confirmed at roughly 7×7 inches with speeds up to 100 Mbps and a lightweight 1 lb form factor (class estimate, final weight TBD).

Starlink Mini is larger at 11×9 inches, weighs ~1.1 kg, supports DC power, and is available in AU/NZ today.

Travelling with Starlink Mini today? Amazon LEO’s Nano terminal is coming in hot with a 7×7" compact design, up to 100 Mbps, and a super lightweight form factor (Amazon has described this terminal class as around 1 lb (0.45kg), though final Nano weight is not yet confirmed).

Starlink Mini is bigger at 11×9", weighs ~1.1 kg, supports DC power, and is fully available in AU/NZ right now.

Here’s a quick, high-level snapshot of what’s publicly confirmed:

✔ Amazon has launched 150+ satellites
✔ Global service planned to begin in 2026
✔ Two customer terminal designs revealed so far
✔ Ultra-Pro terminal confirmed for enterprise & high-speed needs
✔ Ground network build-out underway in multiple regions
✔ Australia is expected to be an early market, with Tasmania likely as a trial state
✔ Amazon says the system will support home, business, mobile, maritime & rural users

Still no official pricing or final hardware specs.
