In 1980, Barry Sheene left Suzuki and took on the Grand Prix elite aboard an Akai-sponsored Yamaha TZ500G privateer machine. Nicknamed “The Slug” for its lack of power and handling issues, the bike struggled against the dominant factory Yamaha YZR500s.

Despite a difficult season that saw him finish 15th in the championship, Sheene’s determination and iconic black-and-red #7 Yamaha turned the campaign into one of the most memorable displays of grit in Grand Prix racing history.

In 1993, rookie Tetsuya Harada stunned the Grand Prix paddock by winning the 250cc World Championship aboard the Yamaha TZ250M (0WF3). Powered by a unique 249cc 90° V-twin with a single-axis crankshaft and housed in a lightweight Deltabox chassis, the Yamaha prioritized corner speed and agility over outright horsepower.

With its razor-sharp handling and Harada’s ultra-smooth riding style, the 102 kg machine carried incredible momentum through every turn, helping him defeat Loris Capirossi in a dramatic title-deciding showdown at Jarama and secure one of the greatest rookie championships in GP history.

Johann Zarco has shared an emotional update one month into his recovery, admitting that while he is happy to resume training, he is starting to miss the world of racing more than ever. "A month now! I am happy to train again, I can't deny that I begin to miss my team, miss my bike and miss my world. As long there is a risk of infection, I cannot risk to have surgery. But time isn't lost because the work done on my knee before the surgery will help me even after it. So I still need to wait a bit In the meantime, my guitar's skill are improving and it's lovely to share peaceful time with family," Zarco said.
