New single OUT TODAY!! As a teaser for the new album, out next week for Michael Carpenter and The Banks Brothers!!! I wrote this about that feeling of just not having enough time/energy/inspiration to make it through the day. The obvious thing to do is kick that feeling out with a bluegrass romp! And even better getting Abbie Ferris to come sing it with us, and Hamish Davidson to come play some fiddle and dobro! We LOVE it! Have a listen and tell us what you think!

What many of you will know from my presence here on socials, is that I'm really big on community. Celebrating it. Building it. Being a part of it. Watching people support each other and elevate each other. "A rising tide lifts all boats" etc.

What many will also know is that I'm into year 4 of my time as a CMAA - Country Music Association of Australia Board Member. This not for profit, unpaid, group of people work tirelessly behind the scenes, agitating and planning and pushing to try to make our Australian Country music industry thrive and grow and be celebrated.

Over the last few years, I've been vocal within the board, and found a kinship among board members, to find more ways to add value to membership of the CMAA. And this week, a major initiative has been announced. The CMAA Affiliate Program has gone live. The idea behind it is to ultimately have a whole range of services available at the website below. Kinda like a 'country music service database'. These services are also offering small value adds and discounts for CMAA members.

We already have a broad range of guitar repairers, publicists, video makers, recording services, radio pluggers, photography, singing and guitar teachers listed, with the list growing every day.

If you are a CMAA member, check your emails for the nuts and bolts of how it works. It's pretty simple... approach one of the listed services, give them your active CMAA membership number and the service will apply their discount/offer to what they charge.

If you're not a member, you may want to do the maths on the economics of becoming one. A small investment in your membership will save you much bigger money in the things you need to do.

AND, if you're a service that charges money for a country music artist's need, please consider getting in touch with the CMAA and becoming part of the program? Hair and makeup? Travel? Session musicians? Graphic design? The list goes on! We're not asking service providers to give up much.. just a little to help elevate and support our artists.

This may seem like a small thing, but to us, we believe it's a massive step in bringing our community closer together. Providing a central place where new and established artists can peruse the services out there in the community. And trying to make it easy for us all to create and grow.

I'm pretty proud of our board members, in general, but in particular over the last 4 years I've been a part of it. It tends to be a thankless role at times, but this is a good initiative for our whole community. And we have other great things to support our members to announce really soon.

I just had a conversation with a potential new client. We were discussing budgets etc, and I mentioned that if you're happy with your current producer, that I can just be called in to mix and/or master. They responded that they didn't know that I only did mixing/mastering and thought that I only did full production.

So, I guess I'm sending out to the universe that yes, indeed, I DO 'just' mix. In stereo, and one of the very few doing Dolby Atmos mixes. So if you're feeling like you're happy with the way you're making records, but might need some help finishing them off, or if you have finished your record but want someone to spatialise in Dolby Atmos the post mix stems, drop me a line. I'm pretty ok at this stuff, and VERY experienced, and work very quickly and efficiently to your budget.

A long while ago I mentioned the rekindling of my true “bromance” with my beautiful mate Perry Keyes. How, after a long unusual estrangement , we came back together and got back to what we do best - making music.

Well, we’ve made lots of music, in the studio and live since, and the first fruits are out now. It features me playing lots of stuff, with the lovely Edmond Kairouz on lots of guitars and backing vocals, and fine cameos by Jed Zarb, Gabi Blissett and Amy Vee. And I think it was the first whole album completed at The House Studio.

Highly respected writer Bernard Zuel has just weighed in on his thoughts, and it’s a lovely thing to read and is linked below. And it’s really special to have these challenging songs out in the world. Working with Perry and Ed always brings out the best in me, and you can hear that on this important record.

It’s always exciting when super talented new artists come in and spend time here at The House. The last few days we’ve had the amazing in, recording her first tracks. We covered a lot of stylistic country territory in that time, and Rach sung and played her songs so beautifully, and took to the recording process perfectly. I can’t wait to do more and see what happens next!!

Happy release day to my talented mate with his great new single, recorded, mixed (in stereo and Dolby Atmos) and mastered here at The House. I’ve made no secret of my love for Harvey’s music and talent, so it’s great to have this new track out in the world. (And I got to sing some backing vocals on it too!) Tracking the whole band live with no head phones? No problem as long as the band is good enough, careful about their volume and can manage their internal balances carefully. And that is the case today with and her new soul project with , Simon Morel and Dave Kirby here at . (I don’t do lots of tracking sessions here because it IS a house. But these guys are very well behaved volume wise!)
