Melbourne Storm have confirmed Eli Katoa suffered “seizure activity” on the bench and needed surgery after being allowed to play on for Tonga against New Zealand on Sunday, a decision described as “indefensible”.

Martin Gabor reported.

My thoughts:

I dare say, the NRL and Melbourne Storm will investigate into this matter. I believe like 99.99% of people, that Katoa should have been ruled out of the game after the knock he copped in the warm up. Wolf quoted “there was no HIA in the warm up”. If that happened during the game, Katoa would’ve been classed a CAT 1 and ruled out, how that wasnt is beyond me.

I hope he is ok, and wish for a speedy recovery.

Prayers go out to Eli Katoa and his family and friends after an incident during the game today that looked to be a very serious.

Katoa copped 3 big hits to the head in an hour, required oxygen as he was carted off to hospital. We really hope he is ok, and we wish for a speedy recovery.

If New Zealand and Australia play tomorrow, does NZ beat the Kangaroos?

With the Rugby League World Cup just over a year away, obviously the Aussies are the favourites, but in my opinion with the way NZ are playing right now, and how the Aussies are playing as well, I think it’s a very tight market.

Thoughts?

P.S. Remember it’s only an opinion, don’t jump down my throat. And I’m happy to be proven wrong next week by Samoa.

What a moment.

Seeing the toughest players in our league so emotional for their country, always a pleasure to watch and listen to the Pacific Island National Anthems.

My biggest takeaways from game 2:

- Either the 10 metres was very short or England were offside for 80% of the game.

- Atkins tried everything in his power to get England across the line, but Australia’s defence was just simply too good.

- Continuing on with Australias defence. What Kevin and the staff have done with this team, who have never played together, is enormous. To only conceed 1 try in 2 games, and that try was a barge over from dummy half, is unreal.

- England, as expected came out and were very physical and I believe threw the Aussies of their game.

- I didn’t agree with the 2 sin bins to start the game, fmd it’s Test football, a little brew ha ha doesn’t warrant 2 sin bins.

- I actually didn’t enjoy the first half at all, no team could get into a rhythm because of the stoppages and 2 penalty goals by each team made me think we were watching Rugby Union.

- Aussies completed at 69% which is awful, and had 47% of the ball, and still they looked like they were never concerned about England.

- I thought Munster was huge for the Aussies, I think his try after half time sparked something in the Aussies and even when he went to fullback for that 10 minute period, to adjust on the fly and organise a defensive line under the pump is no small feat.

- I thought once again Rueben Cotter was outstanding and won’t get the accolades he deserves because of the big name players in this side, but what he’s done in 2 games is massive. Game 1, comes on for Yeo in the first couple of minutes and was outstanding, then again this morning, the little things he does never get mentioned, but he’s been huge for the Aussies.

- Some bright spots for England, Morgan Knowles and Morgan Smithies were unreal, every kickoff, Knowles was first down there greeting the Aussie forwards, looking forward to seeing him for the Dolphins.

Thoughts on the game?

Game 3 predictions:

I don’t know what Kevies plans are, but I think either way we win 3-0.

I say, Moses, Best, Preston, Edward’s, Strange and Brailey all get their shot. Just my opinion, I could definitely be 100% wrong.

Ryan Papenhuyzen has been granted an immediate release from the Melbourne Storm.

Where does Papi end up in 2026?

By all reports he will be in the R360 competition 👀

I think everyone tends to that there was a point where David Fifita was being talked about as the next big thing, along side the games best Forward, Payne Haas.

In my opinion, I love this signing, not just for Souths but for Fifita as well. He will be under arguably the games best ever coach and most of all a people person, someone who cares about the players.

If Wayne can get him back to his dynamic best, Fifita could well and truly be Dally M back rower of the year.

But like all other things, Fifita has to commit and work his ass off to be that guy.

In another story, South Sydney’s left side will be lethal if all reports are true.

6. Cody Walker
12. David Fifita
3. Latrell Mitchell
2. Alex Johnston

Thoughts? And remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Fun Fact from this mornings Game 1 Ashes Test:

The Kangaroos play the ball speed was 4.12 seconds, compared to England 3.46 seconds.

I know many way think it’s not that big of a deal, but i personally thing it’s massive. For the shear fact, that it’s an extra 3.3 seconds across a set of six, that England were in the ruck for.

Now don’t get me wrong, the Aussies didn’t adjust to the ruck speed either, but with Grant Atkins as the referee for game 2, the Kangaroos are going to be even more lethal and Harry Grant is going to be unstoppable in and around the ruck.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Grant comes away with a MOTM performance.

Thoughts?

To think that after the run of form Walsh produced at the back end of the NRL season, he would go out on the World stage and decimate England on their own soil is unbelievable.

If Walsh continues this form throughout the Ashes and ultimately leads the Kangaroos to a series win, is there any one that will push back/argue if he wins the Golden Boot?

In my opinion, I think after this mornings game, he’s miles ahead.

Thoughts?

My biggest takeaways from Game 1:

Australia win by 50 with a fast ruck. Grant Atkins to ref game 2, England have a lot of homework to do in 7 days.

England created chances, but against Australia creating chances isn’t enough.

Reece Walsh still on a heater.
Tino very aggressive, love that from him, asserting dominance.
Cotter was unreal coming on for Yeo.
Harry Grant worlds best #9
Munster with tempo footy, haven’t seen it before, but love it.

A really big positive for England was George Williams, I thought in a well beaten side, he was a standout. Looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.

All in all, Australia way too good tonight.
