President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is under increasing scrutiny after making contradictory statements regarding a reported Chinese mineral survey in Liberia.

In early 2024, President Boakai publicly stated that a "comprehensive mineral survey" had been carried out by the Chinese government, suggesting that critical groundwork had been laid for international investment in Liberia’s mineral sector. The announcement sparked widespread interest and speculation about possible deals and partnerships that could boost the nation’s struggling economy.

However, upon his return from a recent trip to the United States, the President was asked by local journalists to clarify the status of the Chinese mineral survey. Shockingly, he denied ever having made such a statement.

Was this a simple miscommunication—or a deliberate attempt to mislead the Liberian people?
